In his human form.

Disguised as a black dragon.

In his orc form.

Acridostrasz is a dragon of the red dragonflight.

He is first seen in his human form as Acride in Slither Rock in the Burning Steppes, taking it over from Cyrus Therepentous. Adventurers of the Alliance and Horde delivered him rescued dragon whelplings, and he promised to help the forces against the Dark Horde in the area.[1] When the right time came, Ariok and John J. Keeshan called in the favor. The adventurers summoned him with the Horn of the Callers, and he disguised himself as an Obsidian-Cloaked Dragon. The dragon rained fire on the Dark Horde forces at and around Dreadmaul Rock. Once done, he dropped the adventurer at the faction camp, before flying away.[2]

He then appeared in the Hall of Blackhand in his orc guise with the same name, posing as a member of the Scarshield Legion, found immediately inside Blackrock Spire. He offers adventurers quests to kill the leadership of the Blackrock clan and the forces of Nefarius. He also expresses a desire to personally kill Nefarian, like his predecessor Vaelan.

Ultimately, he is found at Vermillion Redoubt in the Twilight Highlands. He was injured in the attack of the twilight dragons, but was soon healed by Vermillion Menders.[3]

Quotes

Gossip at Hall of Blackhand

Do not be alarmed. I am not as I appear.

My name is Acridostrasz, though you may call me Acride. My Queen sent me here to stop Nefarian, and I will not rest until my task is complete. However, there are other foes here guarding his lair that I cannot take on alone.

Help me dispose of them, and you will be in the favor of Alexstrasza. You may not know that name, but you will one day be thankful you do, of this I am certain.

In the RPG

Icon-RPG.png This section contains information from the Warcraft RPG which is considered non-canon.

Acridostrasz, spelled Acridistrasz in this incarnation, was an eager young red dragon and former guardian of Grim Batol under the command of Garshilan, leader of the Red Dragonspawn Patrol. Brann Bronzebeard came across him while exploring Grim Batol during his journeys through the Eastern Kingdoms. Acridistrasz told Brann Bronzebeard that the red dragonflight is "guarding a secret that living creatures are not meant to know".

Acridistrasz is fiercely loyal to his queen, but he has a tendency to involve himself in mortal affairs. Acridistrasz heard that a powerful black dragon, disguised as a troll, lurked within a small troll encampment to the south of Grim Batol. Acridistrasz knew that his prominence in the red dragonflight would rise immensely should he defeat a black dragon in battle. To that end, he sought a band of adventurers to journey to the troll enclave and confirm or deny the rumor. The young wyrm hoped the adventurers would find out if the black dragon did indeed hide with the trolls, and not to attack it if it did; they were simply to report back to Acridistrasz so he could deal with the creature. He would have performed the investigation himself, but it would have taken him away from his duties.[4]

Notes

  • In Blackrock Spire, he reuses the ID of the Scarshield Infiltrator, the guise of Vaelastrasz.
  • Vaelan's ID appearing in the Spire was also changed to Acride, but it was left unused.
  • During the Cataclysm beta, an early version of B [15-30] A Deal With a Dragon referred to the quest ender as Vaelan, but it was later changed to Acride.
