This article contains lore taken from Warcraft novels, novellas, or short stories.

In an alternate timeline, Thrall died as an infant. Aedelas Blackmoore was robbed of his ultimate weapon and most efficient method of taking over the Alliance, so he did the unexpected - instead of going further down his drunken path, he sobered up, conscripted more soldiers and mercenaries, and trained his would-be army himself. His hands-on approach won him popular support, and Blackmoore himself led the charge into Blackrock Spire. He even managed to kill Orgrim Doomhammer in single combat, dealing the Horde a devastating blow. Rather than having the defeated orcs put into internment camps, Blackmoore gave them a choice: join his private army or die.

Blackmoore returned to Lordaeron after the Battle of Blackrock Spire with his personal army of humans and orcs and had conquered the Kingdom of Lordaeron and dethroned the House of Menethil, during which King Terenas Menethil was killed along with Uther the Lightbringer and Anduin Lothar. He then became the self-proclaimed King of Lordaeron, assisted by his duplicitous advisor, Kel'Thuzad. He even had Doomhammer's plate reforged into a suit of armor for himself. He was not a well-loved ruler, and Taretha Foxton, his former mistress, believed that Varian Wrynn even planned to restore Arthas Menethil and his wife Jaina Proudmoore to the throne of Lordaeron, both of whom had fled to the safety of Stormwind in the aftermath of Blackmoore's coup.

His rule ended after about nineteen years, when he mysteriously disappeared, having been taken by the infinite dragonflight in order to kill Thrall in the original timeline. He first appeared inside of the Caverns of Time where he killed Thrall's ally, the green dragon Desharin, severing his head. Aedelas then clashed with Thrall but the fight was interrupted by a bronze dragon who tossed Thrall into a timeway portal. As the orc landed, the King threatened to kill him. He eluded the bronze dragons, entered the timeway and emerged somewhere in the Hillsbrad foothills area. He found Thrall holding his infant, alternate-self in arms. The assassin came closer in order to kill the infant but the adult Thrall slammed into him, taking themselves into the nearby water, leaving the baby Thrall to be found by approaching Aedelas and Tammis. While underwater, both struggled to fight for a while but Thrall swam out and was teleported into the Blackmoore's world. The orc learned from Taretha about the world and Krasus confirmed that he is no longer here. At this point, Thrall realized that the assassin was, in fact, the missing King Blackmoore. He wasn't sure who the attacker was when he first appeared but sounded familiar.

After Thrall freed Nozdormu, the Aspect confirmed to him that the assassin was King Blackmoore, an agent of the infinite dragonflight. Blackmoore didn't continue chasing Thrall but instead, returned to the main universe, and atop a twilight dragon, he followed Thrall into Desolace. It was later revealed that he was also working with the Twilight Father and Arygos. When Arygos failed to be made the next Aspect, he retreated into the Eye of Eternity in the Nexus where Aedelas found him. The blue dragon told him to work together in order to bring Thrall and Kalecgos down and thus please Deathwing. As Aedelas agreed and climbed, he stabbed the dragon and his blood poured into the Focusing Iris, activating it and reviving the chromatic dragon Chromatus with its energies drawn by a surge needle above the Wyrmrest Temple.

They eventually clashed in the Dragonblight, right after Thrall had fallen from Kalecgos. As he recovered from the fall, he regained his clarity and was ready to battle Blackmoore. Although the battle lasted for a time, King Blackmoore was ultimately overwhelmed. As Thrall was about to strike the final blow, Aedelas begged for mercy, a thing that wasn't granted as the Doomhammer crushed his head.[1]

Notes[]

  • Thrall wondered if Aedelas was to become the Lich King.
  • He is described with blue eyes.[2]
  • His two-handed broadsword was called Fleshrender.[3]
