Ruins of Alterac

The palace in the Ruins of Alterac.

The Kingdom of Alterac had its own palace,[1] nested in its capital of Alterac City. It housed the Perenolde family, which had its own personal guard of twenty soldiers in addition to the standing military garrison.[2]

The palace had its own map room, that also doubled as a war room. An impressive tapestry-map covered its far wall. It showed Alterac from edge to edge, with towns and forts picked out in silver thread and the building itself in gold. King Perenolde murdered a messenger from the Alliance here before hiding his body in the garderobe.[3]

After the Second War, the traitorous king was placed under house arrest by Alliance authorities, confining him to his palace and the rest of his family to close watch.[1] A party of orcs from the Horde of Draenor eventually infiltrated the palace, killing its defenders so they could access the imprisoned king.[4]

In modern times, the palace houses the Crushridge ogre leader Mug'thol after his rebellion from the Forsaken. It is the only relatively intact building left in the city's ruins.
