Anaris Windwood in the Maw.

Commander Anaris Windwood was a member of the night elf Sentinels and the commander of the Ashenvale region. She was tall and physically powerful, with purple hair and pale blue skin. Her most striking feature, however, was the facial scars she'd received from a troll's raptor. She chose not to have the scars healed, instead proudly referring to them as the "true mark of the soul". What she lacked in beauty, she made up for in ferocity and her attitude towards others, with someone once describing her as having the shooting skills of Shandris Feathermoon and the inspirational skills of a satyr.[1]

War of the Thorns

Anaris was known as a war hero many times over, most recently during the Cataclysm, when she led a small army of Sentinels in retaking Silverwind Refuge from the Horde, allowing it to once again serve as a center of Ashenvale's Sentinel presence. However, she was never sent to fight elsewhere and had never been sent into Horde territory at all.

Prior to the War of the Thorns, Delaryn Summermoon and many other Sentinels from Darnassus were sent to Ashenvale to serve under Anaris, with Delaryn as Windwood's second-in-command. Delaryn admired Anaris as a personal hero, but she and her fellow Sentinels soon discovered the commander's harsh attitude. She seemed to consider any Sentinels who had had duty in the comfort of Darnassus to be lesser compared to those who hadn't. Over the following days, Anaris subjected the Darnassus Sentinels to various humiliating tasks, putting them through practice as if they were fresh recruits and sending them to deliver trivial messages.[1]

When Horde rogues attacked Sentinel outposts throughout Ashenvale, Anaris was out on a training patrol with a dozen Sentinels. When Delaryn and Ferryn caught up with them, they weren't even patrolling; Anaris was instead ordering the exhausted Sentinels to march in perfect synchronization. Moments later, Rifen and Lorash Sunbeam attacked the group, with Rifen dropping from the canopy to land on Anaris' back and stab her with twin daggers, killing her.[1][2] Delaryn succeeded her as the commander of Ashenvale.[1]

After her death, her soul ended up in the Maw, as a result of the machine of death being broken. While being imprisoned within the Tremaculum, she was rescued by mortals aligned with the Night Fae Covenant, at the urging of Ysera.[3] Following her liberation, she came to reside in the Heart of the Forest within Ardenweald.

Objective of

After being saved from the Maw in N [50] From a Dark Place, Anaris has this gossip:

The war exacted a terrible toll on our people. More so than anyone else.

It cannot go unanswered.

I hope that you will stand with us when we finally have our vengeance.

She has different dialogue for Horde players:

I acknowledge that you saved me from that terrible, dark place. And I am grateful.

But I cannot forget the suffering that the Horde inflicted on my people.

Justice must still be served.
