Apata Highmountain is a Highmountain tauren huntress who accompanies the hunter player in search of the legendary tauren spear, [Talonclaw], along with her brother Wuho.

She is first encountered upstairs in the Arsenal Absolute in Dalaran, where she briefly tells the player about Talonclaw's history and its current whereabouts. If the player chooses to pursue Talonclaw as their first artifact, Apata and the player fly together to Spiritwatch Point in Highmountain in order to consult the Eagle Spirit, Ohn'ahra, but once they arrive it becomes apparent that the Point is under attack from strange plant creatures. Apata is pulled down while the player lands farther north, after which the adventurer is forced to rescue both Apata and Ohn'ahra from a crazed member of the Bloodtotem tribe named Degar Bloodtotem. In gratitude, Ohn'ahra then gives Apata and the hunter hero her blessing, transforming them both into spirit eagles who are swiftly transported to the Helmouth Shallows in Highmountain, where Talonclaw resides under the watch of the monstrous beast Dakarr.

After the vrykul rune wards blocking off a section of the shallows are disabled by the player, Dakarr emerges from the mist and begins repeatedly sending its minions to attack Apata, Wuho and the player before disappearing into the mists again. Eventually, Wuho is killed by the monster, but Apata and the player press on until Apata herself is killed as well. With her dying breath, she urges the adventurer to continue on without her and retrieve Talonclaw. Apata's pet lion, Deesa, stays behind next to her body as the adventurer presses on to kill Dakarr.

After the adventurer kills Dakarr and claims Talonclaw, the spirit of Dorro Highmountain appears and tells the hero that he will find the spirits of Apata and Wuho and ensure that they do not have to stay in the Helmouth Shallows.
