Archmage Alturus is a human located at the entrance to the Master's Cellar guarding it from demons. Before the Burning Legion's third invasion, he was located just outside of Karazhan in Deadwind Pass. He is a high ranking member of the Violet Eye responsible for gathering information about the state of Karazhan. His immediate supervisor is Archmage Cedric of Dalaran.

When Khadgar was still Medivh's apprentice, Alturus worked with Khadgar on a fire-attributed piece of the [Archmage's Prismatic Disc], entrusted to the latter by Archmage Antonidas. Alturus has a private sanctum, the portal to which is located inside the Master's Cellar in Deadwind Pass.

• Archmage Alvareaux once wrote a treatise exploring a fascinating theory. He proposed the existence of an exact copy of Karazhan in a world other than our own and that both somehow shared the same space.

Alturus walks across the road and left of Archmage Leryda.

Archmage Alturus begins to perform an arcane scrying.

Archmage Alturus says: Blasted scrying crystal! I'm not getting anything over here.

Apprentice Darius says: S-sir... have you tried giving the crystal a good shake? It's possible that the ley-lines are clouding up the reading.

Alturus walks back and stops in front of Darius.

Archmage Alturus says: I ought to give your head a good shake! I've a feeling the ley-lines are clouding up your brain. No, Darius, what we need is a large depository of mineral-heavy water. Even faint arcane signals will accumulate in sulphur and lime.

Apprentice Darius says: S-sorry, sir.

Alturus continues on to his regular spot.

Leryda turns for a moment to address Alturus.

Archmage Leryda says: Do not be so harsh on the child, Alturus. Remember that Cedric himself assigned him to you.
