The Armory is a searchable database of information for World of Warcraft. Since the Armory pulls its data from the actual game servers, it is the most comprehensive database on the characters, arena teams, and guilds of World of Warcraft in existence.
While the Armory data gets automatically updated, it is not a quite suitable replacement for traditional, non-"life" character databases. This is because it only saves a character's status after their last logout, so there is no way to display multiple sets of gear (for instance healing, PvP, or resistance sets) or the effects of different talent builds.
When the Armory first came up, many players were concerned that their items and stats were viewable for all to see. This was the core of Blizzard's [Tinfoil Hat] April Fool's joke.
Note: Character profiles below level 10 or that have been inactive for a sufficiently long period of time are not displayed.
Beta Status[]
Before Cataclysm, the Armory was in Beta, and as such had quite a few problems with errors and the speed of the site in general.
With Patch 4.0.1, many mechanics of World of Warcraft were changed but are not yet reflected in the Armory. Missing mechanics include: Reforging, Engineering enchantments, and Prime Glyphs.
Player vs. Player Leaderboards[]
Every season, the Armory keeps track of the top point-five percent of teams from a region's arena teams. These teams are commemorated in the Player vs. Player Leaderboards (previously know as Arena Hall of Fame). Individual members that play more than twenty percent of a team's games are given special rewards, such as exclusive mounts and specialized titles.

Armory alternatives[]
To avoid network and interface lag sometimes found with the Armory, and to show some style differences and provide additional tools, a few alternatives have been created.
