Aspirant Thales is a kyrian from the Temple of Courage who was taken captive by the House of Constructs and brought to their stronghold in Maldraxxus. He was blinded while in captivity, but he and his surviving friends were later freed by Maw Walkers and chose to stay in Maldraxxus for a time to help the Maw Walkers' allies in the House of the Chosen before returning home to Bastion.

Thales serves as a quest giver in the Maldraxxus storyline.

Biography

Alongside many other kyrian, Thales was captured during the House of Constructs and House of Rituals' attack on the Temple of Courage in Bastion and taken to the Construct stronghold in Maldraxxus. Most of the other aspirants were dismembered on arrival, but the lead surgeon decided that the only thing worth taking from Thales were his eyes. After being blinded, Thales was left to rot in a pile of corpses in the Hall of Chains. After allowing themselves to be captured by the Constructs and brought to the Hall of Chains as well, a Maw Walker encountered Thales and helped him free his fellow survivors, of which there were only four left—the Ascended Kynthia and the stewards Hipokos, Kou, and Koa—as well as Secutor Mevix, the Maw Walker's ally from the House of the Chosen. Thales and the Maw Walker subsequently dispatched the three individuals overseeing the Constructs' experiments on kyrian bodies before meeting up with Mevix and stewards. While Mevix wanted to thin the enemy's numbers, Thales simply wanted to spare his fallen kin from being turned into abominations and sent the Maw Walker and the stewards to gather nearby kyrian corpses so he could send them off.

With the help of a praetor repaired by Hipokos, the Maw Walker and Mevix broke into the Flesh Stitchery and killed First Apprentice Malkrex and Sharrex the Fleshcrafter while they were working on a Soulfused Construct made out of kyrian bodies. Mevix wanted to destroy the abomination, but Thales intervened as he could sense that the souls of his fellow kyrian still existed within the construct. The group instead climbed up on the construct's back, with Thales soothing the souls within while the Maw Walker directed the abomination's actions to wreak havoc on the House of Constructs—including by killing Baron Halis—and then escape to Spider's Watch, where the Maw Walker's display of power awakened the Rune of Might on the runeblade they carried. Afterward, Thales thanked the hero for showing him what courage is and stated that he and his friends would recuperate at Spider's Watch until they found a way to return to Bastion.

When the Seat of the Primus was attacked by the forces of Baron Vyraz, Thales, the stewards, and the Soulfused Construct helped defend it alongside the Maw Walker's necrolord allies. After the battle was won, Thales and the stewards relocated inside, with the aspirant stating that he hoped the taking of the Seat would give both Bastion and Maldraxxus time to heal.

Thales was later present for the kyrian and necrolord attack on the House of Constructs. After the battle of Desmotaeron, the aspirant and the other former Construct captives returned to the Seat of the Primus to witness Draka's promotion ceremony. During the event, Thales could be seen seemingly tending to one of the Liberated Forsworn that heroes had brought from Desmotaeron.

The aspirant and his friends finally returned to Bastion. They were present in Elysian Hold for the Archon's announcement of the new Temple of Devotion. During Adrestes' promotion ceremony at the Seat of the Archon, Thales thanked the Maw Walker for saving him from Maldraxxus and for inspiring him not to give up. He also stated that he had bonded with Hipokos (whom Mikanikos had taken on as his apprentice) and that he would likely continue to serve as the mute steward's voice, just as Hipokos would serve as Thales' eyes.

This conflict has taken a great toll on all of us. We've sustained wounds far deeper than just physical.

I can only hope that taking the Seat of the Primus will set things right. Both Bastion and Maldraxxus must have time to heal.
