  • Dragonflight Patch 10.0.0 (2022-10-25): Now a row 7 Blood talent (was a level 30 Blood talent).
  • Shadowlands Patch 9.2.5 (2022-05-31): Fixed an issue that caused Bone Shields consumed by Ability fiegndead [Tombstone] to not reduce the cooldown of Blood Tap by the correct amount.
  • Shadowlands Patch 9.0.1 (2020-10-13): Re-added as a level 30 talent (was a level 58 ability).
  • Battle for Azeroth Patch 8.0.1 (2018-07-17): Removed.
  • Legion Patch 7.1.5 (2017-01-10): Recharge time reduction per Bone Shield charge consumed increased to 2 seconds (was 1 second).
  • Legion Patch 7.0.3 (2016-07-19): Redesigned as a level 58 Blood ability (was a level 60 ability for all specs).
    Previous effect: Every 15 Runic Power you spend will generate a Blood Charge. Max 12 charges. Blood Tap consumes 5 Blood Charges to activate a random fully-depleted rune as a Death Rune.
  • Warlords of Draenor Hotfix (2015-03-18): Reverted the hotfix from March 11.
  • Warlords of Draenor Hotfix (2015-03-11): Fixed a situation where Blood Tap and Spell deathknight butcher2 [Death Strike] could interact incorrectly and allow Death Runes to become permanent.
  • Warlords of Draenor Hotfix (2014-10-14): Should no longer incorrectly trigger when attempting to cast Spell shadow deathcoil [Death Coil] against an invalid target.
  • Warlords of Draenor Patch 6.0.2 (2014-10-14): Now available at level 60 (was 75). Now generates a Blood Charge for every 15 Runic Power spent (previously generated 2 Blood Charges for each damaging Spell shadow deathcoil [Death Coil], Spell deathknight empowerruneblade2 [Frost Strike], or Spell deathknight darkconviction [Rune Strike]).
  • Mists of Pandaria Patch 5.0.4 (2012-08-28): Now a level 75 talent (was a level 64 ability). Redesigned.
    Previous effect: Immediately activates a Blood Rune and temporarily converts it into a Death Rune. This rune counts as a Blood, Unholy, or Frost Rune. Lasts 20 sec.
  • Cataclysm Hotfix (2011-12-02): No longer benefits from the cooldown reduction and the duration increase from the buff Last Defender of Azeroth.
  • Cataclysm Patch 4.0.1 (2010-10-12): No longer generates Runic Power.
  • Wrath-Logo-Small Patch 3.0.2 (2008-10-14): Added.
