“One day, I'll fight a campaign where we are properly supplied and equipped. It'll be the easiest war I'll ever fight.”
- — Bonesmith Heirmir[1]
Bonesmith Heirmir is a member of the House of the Chosen, the most renowned smith in Maldraxxus, and the last remaining apprentice of the Primus himself.[2] She is among the oldest mortal souls in the realm and is known as the foremost expert on forging weapons and armor.[3]
Heirmir serves as a quest giver in the Maldraxxus storyline and Chains of Domination campaign and is available as a soulbind to players who join the Necrolord Covenant.
Biography[]
Heirmir crafted Alexandros Mograine's sword Fatebringer after he was named baron of the House of the Chosen.[4]
After the Maw Walker discovered an unfinished blade and a message from the Primus in the standing stone at the center of the House of the Chosen, Baroness Draka sent the hero to ask for Heirmir's advice on what to do. Heirmir recognized the Primus' make and decided that regardless of the Primus' intentions, a blade without a hilt was useless.[2] With hide scraps from the land itself as raw materials and the anima-infused bones of Marrowjaw as the hilt,[5][6] Heirmir forged the blade into a proper runeblade while the Maw Walker held off the soul guardians that emerged from the weapon. As soon as the weapon was finished, Heirmir was knocked away by a blast of energy and concluded that the Maw Walker was the only one meant to wield it.[7]
Heirmir later joined Baroness Draka and the rest of the Maw Walker's allies in defending the Seat of the Primus from the House of Constructs and the forces of Baron Vyraz until the Maw Walker could use the runeblade to open the way into the Seat, revealing a message from the Primus within. Heirmir could subsequently be seen tinkering with Hipokos' Salvaged Praetor.[8]
In the Covenant Sanctum version of the Seat of the Primus, Heirmir can be found in the laboratory in the northwestern part of the fortress alongside her assistant Enceladus. The Bonesmith and Plague Deviser Marileth helped defend the Seat by equipping Ragewing with a few "surprises" (plague vials and runed spears) which necrolord Maw Walkers could throw at the traitorous necrolord forces besieging the Seat.[9]
Heirmir partook in the joint kyrian and necrolord assault on the House of Constructs. She accompanied Alexandros Mograine's forces at the Stitchyard, where she tinkered with a broken kyrian goliath.[10]
Chains of Domination[]
Heirmir was among the covenant forces whom Maw Walkers rallied to charge into the realm of Korthia after they established a portal link between it and Oribos.[11] Tal-Galan, leader of Korthia's attendants, later enlisted the aid of Heirmir and a Maw Walker to help him open the Vault of Secrets and obtain its contents before the Jailer's Mawsworn minions did. The Bonesmith only reluctantly agreed, since she didn't want to linger in the Maw longer than necessary.[12] In order for the vault to open, it needed to be fed by two anima conduits. Heirmir repaired the first one in the Caverns of Contemplation while the Maw Walker held the Mawsworn off her, including a caster called Xalvez the Collector.[13] Tal-Galan subsequently managed to recreate a message from the Primus himself, which revealed that the Mawsworn's objective was a sigil that the Primus had entrusted to Korthia after he disappeared from Maldraxxus.[14] Forgoing her earlier reluctance, Heirmir became determined to find her old master. The group followed the trail of anima to the other of the vault's conduits, which was stuck on a floating island near Hope's Ascent.[15] The Bonesmith used local animal bones to create a hookshot and several grapple points to get across[16] and repair the conduit while the Maw Walker defended her from devourers.[17]
The group then headed to the Vault of Secrets, where covenant forces were holding off the Mawsworn.[18] After carving a path through the attackers[19] and rescuing some more attendants,[20] the trio entered the Chamber of the Sigil. Tal-Galan wanted to recover a few of the vault's other treasures, but Heirmir convinced him to focus on the sigil. They were interrupted by the reappearance of Xalvez the Collector, but proceeded to defeat him and take the sigil—which the Primus had bound with the magic of memory—back to Keeper's Respite.[21] Bolvar Fordragon suggested taking the sigil to the Runecarver imprisoned in the Jailer's tower of Torghast to see if he could untangle it. Heirmir volunteered to come along to see if the Runecarver's work was "up to par". When the Maw Walker gave the sigil to the Runecarver in his oubliette, it unexpectedly caused him to regain his true form, revealing him to be none other than the Primus. Heirmir was astonished that her master had been trapped in Torghast the whole time, while the Primus was furious that she and the hero had brought his sigil right to the Jailer's lair. Before they could argue further, the Jailer arrived with an army of Mawsworn. Yelling that she couldn't lose her master again after only just getting him back, Heirmir helped the Maw Walker hold off the Mawsworn. As the battle progressed, however, the Jailer stunned Heirmir and the hero and used his vessel Anduin to seize the sigil before teleporting away.[22] The Primus and his allies returned to Korthia to discuss their next move, with Heirmir subsequently setting up shop at Keeper's Respite.[23]

After the player accepts the campaign quest [60] The Primus Returns, Heirmir sets up shop at Keeper's Respite in Korthia, where she deals with Shards of Domination.
After one character on the player's account has unlocked this version of Heirmir, all of their alts will gain access to a Vision of Bonesmith Heirmir—functionally identical to the real Bonesmith—as soon as they complete the objectives of the earlier campaign quest [60] Charge of the Covenants.

Gossip[]
- House of the Chosen
- Everyone always has need of the forge. New weapons, new armor. They should learn to properly maintain their equipment instead.
- Seat of the Primus after [53-60] The Door to the Unknown
- Hah! I been in Maldraxxus plenty long...and I never seen anythin' like this!
- There's something special about this time. Should just be pleased I'm 'round to take part.
- Now run along. I got arms to repair.
- Can you tell me about Alexandros's sword?
- Fatebringer, eh? I made it for him when he was named baron. He wanted somethin' similar to what he used in life. Based on yer reaction, I'm guessin' you recognize the shape a bit. I guess if I shared a title with a sword I'd be pretty attached to it.
- It's one of my finer creations. Alexandros fought hard to come by some of the materials that went into it. Not sure where the skull came from, but it's certainly not from Maldraxxus.
- Seat of the Primus (Covenant Sanctum version)
- Last time I was here, the Primus was still around.
- I can't leave his forge unattended now that we're back. He'd never let me hear the end of it.

Notes[]
- It's never stated what race Heirmir belonged to in life. Game designer Sarah Cotner, who invented the character,[24] wrote her to be "somewhere between dwarf and vrykul" but intentionally left it vague since the Shadowlands are home to souls from many different worlds and not just Azeroth.[25]
- Her generic name during the last portion of [60B] Night Fae Assault is Unrelenting Smith.
