This CVar controls the view distance of the environment. Manually increasing this CVar beyond the maximum value may cause the client to crash (Error 132).

Default Setting[]

1000

Possible Settings[]

This CVar accepts a range of values from 1500 to 10000 via in-game video options.

1000
minimum farclip distance when set manually (values below 1000 have no effect)
1500
minimum farclip distance (View distance set to 1)
10000
maximum farclip distance (View distance set to 10)

Changing this setting[]

In-game, type the following

/console farclip setting

Alternatively, you can exit wow, open the Config.wtf file, and add the following line:

SET farclip setting

Notes[]

  • Farclip is permanently set to a fixed value in Classic. Manually changing these values has no effect. Notably, there is no in-game option to change the view distance.
    • These values are set to 2112 for Classic, and 5108 for Wrath of the Lich King Classic. These values are much higher than the original maximum view distances of each era.

Patch changes[]

  • Legion Patch 7.0.3 (2016-07-19): Farclip values substantially increased at all "view distance" levels. The view distance setting has been overhauled as a result.
  • Mists of Pandaria Patch 5.0.4 (2012-08-28): Low value increased from 185 to 200, Fair value increased from 507 to 600, Medium value increased from 727 to 800, High value decreased from 1057 to 1000, Ultra value increased from 1250 to 1300.
  • Cataclysm Patch 4.0.1 (2010-10-12): Min value decreased to 0.
  • Wrath-Logo-Small Patch 3.0.2 (2008-10-14): Max value increased from 777 to 1277
