These creatures use their fierce mandibles to rip the flesh from the Crypt Lord's foes.

These units are excellent for creeping alongside the Crypt Lord, though they aren't useful otherwise. Carrion Beetles are created from corpses left on the battlefield, and the Crypt Lord can automatically summon them if desired.

Starting at level 2, Carrion Beetles can use Burrow, making them just as useful as Shades though most players generally prefer shades as they are faster, permanently invisible and most Undead players would generally use a Lich, Death Knight, Dreadlord/Pit Lord.

The Crypt Lord can only have five beetles maintained at a time - attempting to summon further causes the oldest carrion beetles to die, with lower leveled beetles taking higher priority.

Spells and abilities

The Carrion Beetle digs into the ground and becomes invisible, and gains a regeneration rate of 2 hit points per second. The Carrion Beetle cannot attack while burrowed.
Available starting with Level 2 Carrion Beetles.
Burrow/Unburrow Time HP Regen Type HP Regen Rate
1.45 sec. Always 2 HP/sec.

Notes: Burrowed Beetles have a new regeneration type and gain no benefit from Blight anymore. Burrowed units are not affected by auras.
