The Cataclysm expansion (patch 4.0.3a) brought the concept of fishing daily quests to the primary capital cities of Stormwind and Orgrimmar. Patch 4.1.0 expanded this with quests in Ironforge, Darnassus, Undercity, and Thunder Bluff.
Each day, one of the five quests is randomly chosen for each city, and offered to all characters on the realm. A character may only have one of these quests in their log at a time, and only one may be completed per day.

The rewards for these quests are:
- +250 reputation with that city's faction
- 7
40 (or 13 23 at lvl 85) - +1 or +2 skill points in Fishing
- [Bag of Shiny Things] which contains some gold, vendor trash, and common items of variable utility. In addition, you have a chance to get [Strand Crawler], [Weather-Beaten Fishing Hat], [Bone Fishing Pole], or [Jeweled Fishing Pole].
