“Lost time is never found again. Oh, never mind I found it.”

— Chromie[3]

Chronormu is a bronze dragon often involved with mortal affairs. As one of the most important members[4] of the bronze dragonflight, she seeks to maintain and restore various timelines of importance in Azeroth's recent history. Chronormu's preferred guise when dealing with mortals, her visage, is Chromie, a charismatic female gnome.

Biography[]

Note: As a time-traveling dragon, the order in which events occur for Chronormu is difficult to determine. With the exception of the first section, the material presented below is in the order that the player encounters her for ease of reading.

Visage Day[]

WoW-novel-logo-16x62 This section concerns content related to the Warcraft novels, novellas, or short stories.

Note: This section uses male pronouns to refer to Chronormu pre-transition, to match the pronoun usage in the short story "Visage Day". After the events of the short story, she is referred to exclusively as female in both mortal and dragon form.[5][6][7]

Chronormu was assigned male at birth. In the weeks leading up to his Visage Day—the coming-of-age ceremony where dragons decide what their mortal guise will be—he was plagued by indecision. One morning, less than a fortnight before his Visage Day, his dearest friend Zidormi visited him in his roost above the Dragonblight to ask what form he'd be choosing and was shocked to learn that he'd still not decided. He told her that he didn't know how he wanted others to see him when he wasn't even sure how he saw himself, and Zidormi suggested that he seek the counsel of their master Nozdormu.

Chronormu hesitantly circled above the Bronze Dragonshrine for a long while before entering and ramblingly trying to ask Nozdormu if he could reveal what visage the future Chronormu would choose. After getting him to calm down, the Bronze Aspect asked Chronormu what Visage Day meant to him. He replied that it meant the Aspects trusted him to walk among the mortal races and help them understand dragons better, and that it was important to him to pick the right visage since he wanted mortals to see him for who he was. Nozdormu assumed his own mortal guise and stated that just as the dragons' visages allowed them to see the world as the young races do, it informed how the young races perceived the dragons. Since this choice was deeply personal, he would not say anything that might sway Chronormu's decision and instead advised him to seek out other dragons—friends or otherwise—to learn how they made their choices.

Zidormi asked Kalecgos of the blue dragonflight to give Chronormu some guidance. The young bronze traveled to the blue flight's stronghold at the Nexus and met with Kalecgos, who surprised him by revealing that his visage was that of a humble half-elf. Kalecgos explained that while many blues chose elaborate forms, he instead wanted to be approachable and walk among mortals as a friend and equal. When Chronormu asked about his visage's blue hair, he replied "It suits me". Before the bronze left, Kalecgos suggested that he should think about a nickname to use in his mortal form—like how Kalecgos went by "Kalec"—and seek out the advice of someone with a different perspective on dealing with mortals. Chronormu thought about other dragons who'd made an impression on him and settled on the one he thought was as different from Kalecgos as possible: Onyxia of the black dragonflight.

Visage Day 2

Chronormu in her gnome form.

A black drakonid escorted Chronormu into the caverns of the Obsidian Dragonshrine for an audience with the daughter of Deathwing. Onyxia scoffed at Chronormu's view that dragons chose a visage to better relate to the mortal races, instead stating that they chose a visage that allowed them to control mortals. She assumed her human form and continued that no visage could change a dragon's nature as a hunter and killer. Like their other abilities, shapeshifting was a tool to take what they wanted from the young races. She offered to let him stay by her side and teach him everything he needed to know about mortals and allow him to become the greatest member of his flight, great enough that even Nozdormu would kneel before him. The bronze fled from the cave, upset at Onyxia's words, but realized that he now knew what he wanted to be.

As was traditional, Chronormu's Visage Day ceremony was held at the summit of Wyrmrest Temple. It was attended by many members of the bronze flight, including Nozdormu and Zidormi, as well as Kalecgos, Onyxia, and other emissaries from the flights. It was officiated by the Dragon Queen Alexstrasza herself, to Chronormu's initial panic. When the queen arrived, she privately told the bronze that she could postpone the ceremony if he liked, but he replied that he was ready. After the dragons in attendance assumed their own mortal forms, Chronormu began reciting a prepared speech, but decided to forgo it and speak from his heart. He stated that he'd long thought something was wrong with him since the choice of form seemed to come naturally to everyone else.

He continued that the counsel he'd received from his fellow dragons had made him realize that a visage was not just about how they wanted the world to see them, but about how they saw themselves, and that he wanted to experience the world as the smallest and most optimistic of mortals working to create a brighter future. He then cast the spell that would define his mortal form and transformed into a female gnome. She introduced herself as "Chromie", and the other dragons cheered. Zidormi hugged her, Nozdormu told her she'd made a wise choice, and Onyxia gave a nod of acceptance before leaving. Kalec told Chromie that he felt that she was the one who had taught them all a lesson. When he asked why she'd chosen to become female, Chromie smiled, replied "It suits me", and gave him a long hug. After an evening of festivities, Chromie went to bed feeling more whole and joyful than she ever had before.[2]

WoW Icon update This section concerns content related to the original World of Warcraft.

Andorhal was the site of some diabolical experiments by the Scourge. But when they started tampering with time, the bronze dragonflight sent Chronormu to investigate. Chronormu set up a base of operations in the Andorhal inn, creating a time pocket in a single room. There, operating from another time, free of the Scourge's infestation, Chronormu could investigate without contaminating the timeline.[8]

Using her mortal visage, Chromie, the bronze enlisted the aid of adventurers to assist, sending them to root out Temporal Parasites which were interfering with auguration. To maintain the pocket universe, Chromie needed trinkets of time from the ruins of Andorhal. In return for these, Chromie crafted dampeners attuned to Araj, the lich who ruled over the broken city. When activated in his presence, they severely reduced the effectiveness of his spells and played an instrumental role in his downfall.[9]

The more time spent with these mortals, the more sympathetic the bronze agent became with their desperate plight and mourned the losses to the Scourge. When Carlin Redpath, hoping to undo the curse on the soul of his brother, heard about the strange little gnome, he sent his friends to speak with her, equipped with Joseph's wedding ring. Upon receiving the ring, Chromie immediately knew much of Joseph — that he was a great man who had suffered an unspeakable tragedy, and knew it was too late to save him in the present, but not in the past. Sending Carlin's agents into the ruins of Andorhal, they uncovered records detailing the fall of Darrowshire, and the corruption of Joseph Redpath.[10][11][12]

To help him, relics from that battle were needed. With Carlin's help, relics belonging to the heroes and villains of Darrowshire were assembled. Also needed were remains of many Scourge who participated in the battle, found by the use of a resonating crystal that could discern which of the Scourge in the Plaguelands had been there. When all these were assembled, they were brought to Chromie, who cast a spell of time upon them and bid Carlin's friends to return to Darrowshire and place the bag of relics in the center of town. Chromie's spell would raise the spirits of The Battle of Darrowshire, and they would reenact a pantomime of that tragic battle. Chromie could only guide the mortals to their paths, not lead the way for them, and so Chromie bid Carlin's friends good luck, and returned to the investigations of Andorhal.[13]

Chromie also acts as the bronze dragonflight's ambassador at Wyrmrest Temple as a part of The Wyrmrest Accord. Chromie sends willing adventurers out into the Dragonblight to investigate the origins of the infinite dragonflight at the Bronze Dragonshrine.[14]

Chromie gives two quests to divine the true identity of the leader of the Infinite dragonflight. In the first quest, you are assisted by "Future You". In the second quest, you are assisted by "Past You". Your alternate time-displaced self will make quips about things like how much better/worse your gear is now. "Future You" also warns the player not to drink the punch at a party he/she will be attending soon.

Culling of Stratholme[]

Wrath-Logo-Small This section concerns content related to Wrath of the Lich King.

Chromie has also been spotted a few years in the past, just prior to the Third War, when she greets players when they zone into the Culling of Stratholme. She explains that the infinite dragonflight are trying to hide the evidence Arthas used to decide to purge Stratholme by casting illusions on the plagued grain. She gives players Arcane Disruptors that allow players to identify the plagued grain crates.[15]

Once all the plagued grain has been revealed, she asks players to protect Arthas and make sure he reaches Mal'Ganis.[16]

In addition, on Heroic mode, she whispers players at the start of the first leg of the instance to rescue the Bronze Dragonflight agent that is being attacked by the Infinite Corruptor. She also gives the group warnings when the timer to complete the rescue mission reaches the five- and one-minute marks.[17]

Cataclysm[]

Cataclysm This section concerns content related to Cataclysm.

Chromie appears as one of many well-known NPCs in Mount Hyjal during the quest N [35 Daily] The Protectors of Hyjal, aiding in the fight against Ragnaros' forces. Her flight form in Hyjal is that of a bronze whelp.

She later appears in the Well of Eternity instance following the defeat of Mannoroth, she asks if she had missed anything and is awed by Mannoroth being pulled into the Well. When spoken to, she asks "How can I be of aid, stranger?", implying that from her point of view this is the first time Chromie has met any adventurers.

Following the final defeat of Deathwing at the Maelstrom, Chromie now resides in the Alliance capital of Stormwind City with a Achievment boss madnessofdeathwing [Fragment of Deathwing's Jaw]. She will allow members of the Alliance to witness the events that transpired there if spoken to.

Following Deathwing's defeat, Chronormu joined Nozdormu at a meeting of the Wyrmrest Accord. Despite her worry over the stability of the timelines, Nozdormu insisted that protecting history is now a job for the mortal races.[7]

During the trial of Garrosh Hellscream, Chromie works with Tyrande Whisperwind while her companion Kairozdormu works with Baine Bloodhoof. The two of them use an hourglass created by Kairoz, the Inv relics hourglass [Vision of Time], to show the court points in history without relying solely on the possibly faulty memories of witnesses. Near the end of the trial, however, Kairoz tinkers with the Vision of Time, and Chromie begins to grow suspicious. After confronting him about it, Chromie is locked inside a prison cell and unable to prevent Kairoz from freeing Garrosh and escaping to Draenor thirty-five years in the past.

After Chromie is freed from her prison cell, she gathers up the pieces of the now shattered Vision of Time, destroyed during Kairoz's time travel. After aiding in the fight of several alternate timeline counterparts to heroes of Azeroth, an angry and defeated Chromie explains to the assembled leaders at the trial that a growing faction of discontent within the Bronze dragons believes they should change history to make a better future, though Chromie isn't sure herself what a better future even is now that they can no longer see history with clarity following Deathwing's defeat. Kairoz appears to be a part of this faction.[19]

Warlords of Draenor[]

Warlords of Draenor This section concerns content related to Warlords of Draenor.

Chromie travels to the alternate Draenor to help hunt down Kairoz. She apparently feels guilty she did not see Kairoz's betrayal coming. She helps Khadgar and adventurers follow Kairoz's trail to the Time-Lost Glade in Nagrand, only to find that he has already been slain by Garrosh. Kairoz's spirit, thinking that he is still facing Garrosh, attacks her and her companions in N [100] Tarnished Bronze. Chromie attempts to understand Kairoz's actions and he claims that if he were to gain unlimited access to all alternate timelines, he and the Infinite dragonflight could truly achieve infinite power, both for themselves and for the coming battle with the Burning Legion. Kairoz's spirit is defeated and laid to rest. Chromie tells Khadgar she wishes to help mend the damage Kairoz caused.[20]

Chromie appears as a drake in Warlords of Draenor, implying that from her point of view this is after Hyjal (where she is a whelp) but before Culling of Stratholme (where she is a full-grown dragon).

Legion[]

Legion This section concerns content related to Legion.
Main article: The Deaths of Chromie

Chromie called for help from Dalaran to come to Wyrmrest Temple, where she revealed to an adventurer that she would die in the near future (though some time before the end of the Fourth War).[21] In order to figure out the circumstances of her death, she had asked the adventurer for help. It's not that she did not want to die, it's that this wasn't how she was supposed to die. She had seen her death and knew it happened much later than this attack. Meddling with the timeways for personal reasons goes against everything the bronze dragonflight stands for.[22]

The two traveled to Wyrmrest Temple right before her time of death and approached Chromie's future self, but just as they did so the assassination was carried out, and future Chromie died in the magical assault.[23] Chromie and the adventurer thus traveled this time to several minutes before the attack, and asked Kalecgos, Lord Itharius, Alexstrasza, and future Chromie if they had seen anything odd. They each pointed out a particular issue they were encountering in regard to the various dragonshrines across Dragonblight. Before they could set out for the shrines, the attack came and her future self died, again.[24]

Unfortunately for whoever was fixated on Chromie's death, she was "a fairly skilled master of the timeways" with the advantage of trying again and again. As Chromie attempted to travel to four hours before the attack for ample time to investigate, she found something blocking her from accessing that particular moment. An hour before her death was likewise blocked, prompting Chromie to comment that whoever was behind the attack had done their homework. The best she could manage was fifteen minutes before the attack.[25]

Chromie and the adventurer faced Zorathides at the Obsidian Dragonshrine, Talar Icechill at the Ruby Dragonshrine, Thalas Vylethorn at the Emerald Dragonshrine, and the Void Gargantuan at the Azure Dragonshrine, all four of which dropped chronoshards. The chronoshards all led to various points that Chromie had been to in her past or future: Stratholme at the start of the Third War, Andorhal and Mount Hyjal during the Cataclysm, and Zin-Azshari during the War of the Ancients.[22]

In Andorhal, they arrived in the middle of a battle between the Horde and Alliance, with both sides also trying to kill her. The Chromie of that time was trapped in a building due to a cannon aimed directly at her, and so the adventurer and present Chromie took it out, allowing the past Chromie to leave.[26] At Sethria's Roost on Mount Hyjal, they found Chromie's past self nearly dead and fended off attacking fire elementals until she could recover and leave. At the Well of Eternity, demons of the Legion attempted to strike Chromie and the adventurer down as soon as they arrived. The two fought their way to Azshara's Palace and defeated a terrorguard named Grolethax. In Stratholme they arrived shortly before the culling and helped townsfolk out until Prince Arthas arrived and began his attack. At Crusaders' Square they battled Nezar'Azret, who had captured the past Chromie in webbing. She was freed after the battle.[22]

In the end, they never learn who was behind the attacks, though the timelines are restored to normal.[22][27]

Chromie's dragon form in Legion is a whelp like at Hyjal during Cataclysm, in contrast to a drake in Warlords of Draenor and a full-grown dragon in Wrath of the Lich King.

Battle for Azeroth[]

Chromie later visited Mechagon Island after the Horde and Alliance arrived on the island and allied with Prince Erazmin and the Rustbolt Resistance. Chromie revealed to adventurers that during her travels to possible futures, she had discovered a place much like Rustbolt, but different. In this other time and place, very little was left alive, everything was machines. She then ordered them to travel to this other place and scan the memory banks of the Clockwork Giants, in order to use their data to ensure that their Rustbolt never becomes like the other place.[28]

Chromie later journeyed to the Chamber of Heart where she joined with Kalecgos, Alexstrasza, Merithra, and Ebyssian in empowering the Inv heartofazeroth [Heart of Azeroth].[29] It is unknown why it was her instead of Nozdormu; the bronze Aspect's absence is not even mentioned.

Dragonflight[]

Dragonflight This section concerns content related to Dragonflight.

Chromie's dragon form in Dragonflight is a drake like in Warlords of Draenor, as opposed to a whelp as in Cataclysm and Legion and a full-grown dragon in Wrath of the Lich King.

Having been sent to investigate the Temporal Conflux in Thaldraszus by Nozdormu, Chromie discovered that Eternus of the infinite dragonflight was seeking to turn Nozdormu into Murozond.[30] As Eternus attacked the Bronze Oathstone, Chromie interrupted and according to Nozdormu the pair had "punched a tunnel through time and are tumbling endlessly amongst the infinite possibilities."[31] Nozdormu subsequently sent adventures to rescue the pair, were the group ultimately found themselves at the height of the Black Empire, and worked with one another to escape back to the present.[32] Upon their return, Nozdormu allowed Eternus to leave in gratitude for her aid in helping Chromie return to them. However, before departing, Eternus declared that they would bring about his ultimate fate, a statement that Nozdormu met with resignation. Though he was resigned to becoming Murozond, Chromie instead vowed to find another way and promised to search every timeline for a way to save him. With a smile and his confidence restored, Nozdormu tells her how proud he has always been of her.[33]

Fractures in Time[]

Nozdormu called upon adventurers to speak with at Eon's Fringe, where a future version of Chromie claimed that she was there to solve the matter that Nozdormu wished to speak with them about.[34] However, after carrying out her tasks, present Chromie expressed confusion as to why her future self had distorted the timeways.[35][36] Working together, the pair discovered that this future Chromie was in reality Morchie, a Chromie who had become a member of the infinite dragonflight and sought to bring about the rise of Murozond.[37] As the infinite dragonflight invaded the Bronze Temple, Nozdormu arrived and remarked that it was too late for him, only for Chromie to argue that it was never too late and swore to not give on him. Reflecting on how she was ever the optimist, Nozdormu agreed that they had to try.[38] As Chromie and her allies confronted the infinite dragonflight across the Dawn of the Infinite, Nozdormu tracked them to the moment where he dared not thread, the aftermath of Galakrond's death.

As he stayed behind, Chromie and adventurers gave chase into the distant past, where they discovered that the bargain between the infinites and Iridikron involved them taking him to the time of Galakrond's demise so he could claim the fallen dragon's essence, while agreeing to act as a distraction to any allies of the bronze dragonflight that sought to stop them. Their plan finally came to pass, as while Chromie and adventures were focused on stopping Iridikron from acquiring Galakrond's essence, Chrono-Lord Deios did battle with the Proto-Aspects and seemingly corrupted the proto-dragon version of Nozdormu into Murozond. With this single-time alteration, the infinite dragonflight changed the history of Azeroth and created a new timeline. In order to restore Azeroth's timeline, Chromie, and her allies made their way back into the past and aided the Proto-Aspects in stopping Deios, while Iridikron was able to successfully claim Galakrond's essence.

In the aftermath, Chromie was relieved to return to present-day Azeroth and see that Nozdormu was himself and not Murozond.

Fury Incarnate[]

After confronting the infinite dragonflight and Morchie and a great deal of thought, Chromie had arranged for Nozdormu to meet with Eternus in the hopes of swaying Eternus to their point of view.[39] At this meeting the bronze dragons learned that Eternus had turned to the infinites after she was denied the chance to change the past to save her sister Moraidormi, who had been slain by the black dragonflight.[40] After being given the chance to save her, Eternus discovered that Moraidormi had chosen to sacrifice her own life to save a hidden bronze whelping. Eternus subsequently decided to respect her sister's choice and Chromie expressed sympathy for Eternus and hoped that she could find peace. Chromie was overjoyed that Nozdormu and Eternus had reached an understanding, that Eternus planned on speaking with the other infinites to change their points of view, and thanked adventures for their aid.[41]

As a gesture of goodwill, Eternus pledged her assistance in finding the disc that contains Tyr's memories, and traveled to Tyrhold with Chromie and Nozdormu.[42] While Chromie and Eternus worked together to locate the disc, they tasked the adventurer with aiding Travard in restoring the Tyr's Guard.[43] With the Tyr Guard restored, Chromie and Eternus revealed where they needed to travel in order to use the infinite beacons to pinpoint the disc's location.[44] Thus the group discovered that the disc was in the Nighthold, with Chromie noting that the disc was in the possession of Elisande, a powerful master of magic who would know the disc's power.[45]

Quotes[]

Visage Day[]

WoW-novel-logo-16x62 This section concerns content related to the Warcraft novels, novellas, or short stories.
  • Chronormu: "Well, Master Nozdormu, my Visage Day is coming very soon, as you know. I mean of course you know—you're the Timeless One, so you've seen what's about to happen, has happened, and is yet to come. But I'm just a young, unimportant bronze dragon, and I have no idea what's coming—I'm not even sure what form to choose. I was hoping that since you know the future, maybe you could tell me what form I will choose or what future me did choose, which isn't really cheating since you know it's going to happen anyway. And yes, you have rules about that sort of thing, but maybe just this once you could find a way to—"
Nozdormu: "Chronormu."
Chronormu: "Yes?"
Nozdormu: "Breathe."
Chronormu: (takes a deep breath) "Sorry about that."
Nozdormu: "No bronze dragon is small or unimportant. Please, tell me what Visage Day means to you."
Chronormu: "It shows that you and the other Aspects trust me to adopt the form of one of the mortal races and walk among their kind. And the better I can relate to them, the more I can help them understand us dragons. That's why picking the right visage is so important. I want them to see me for me, not just the scales and fangs I wear."
  • (During the Visage Day ceremony) "This hasn't been an easy choice to make. For a long time, I thought something must be wrong with me, because for everyone else the decision seemed to come naturally. So I sought counsel from friends, my honored teachers, and some... Well, some who maybe weren't my friends but taught me lessons all the same. And at last I understood what this choice truly meant. It's not just about how we wish for others to perceive us—it's about how we see ourselves and how we experience this world alongside those we share it with. And I realized I don't want to look upon Azeroth or the mortals that inhabit her through the eyes of a hero or a conqueror. I want to see it as the smallest among them, but also the most optimistic. I want to be someone who could do her best to build a brighter future—while respecting the laws of the timeways, of course! And so my proclamation is..."
(Transforms into Chromie)
"Hi there! You can call me Chromie!"
  • Kalec: "You came to me, as well as others, for advice. So why is it I feel that we are the ones who were taught a lesson?"
Chromie: "Perhaps we all have things to learn from one another."
Kalec: "I believe I understand why you chose to take the form of a gnome. But if I may ask, why did you choose to become female as well?"
Chromie: "It suits me."

Culling of Stratholme
Welcome, adventurer. You've come just in the nick of time.
Gossip Why have I been sent back to this particular place and time?
The Infinite Dragonflight is attempting to alter the destiny of Prince Arthas Menethil.
You know him now as the Lich King, but here and now he was still a prince of Lordaeron trying to do what was best for his kingdom.
Arthas makes a very fateful choice today, leading to something we Keepers of Time call an inflection point in the timeline.
Gossip What was his decision?
Arthas gave the order to cull Stratholme, killing every single human within its walls.
He discovered evidence that the Scourge had infected the city with their insidious plague, and the disease doesn't just kill people.
Those who die to this plague rise up as mindless zombies, further fueling the Scourge's war machine.
Gossip So how does the Infinite Dragonflight plan to interfere?
The Infinites are attempting something unusually subtle for them. They are trying to hide the evidence that will lead to Arthas deciding to cull Stratholme.
Their agents have used illusionary magic on the plagued grain shipments in the nearby countryside to make them appear normal.
I need you to find the hidden grain, and use this Arcane Disruptor on the shipments. Arthas' men are looking for plagued grain, and should find it quickly with the illusion gone.

Now - how did I know your name, you ask? I am one of the bronze dragonflight, forever attuned to the ebb and flow of time. You could say that we have met before. To that end, we shall also meet again.
Crown Guard Tower after quests
Hello once again, <name>. I sense that the flow of time remains threatened by forces that are quite powerful indeed. Your continued assistance is always welcomed by the bronze dragonflight.
While the past is set in its ways, the future is always changing. The decisions you make in the here and now help guide that change.
Well of Eternity gossip
How can I be of aid, stranger?
Gossip I am ready to help Thrall, back in my present time.

I know I'm a little early! ...For once.
Don't you worry, though. There will be more to do soon enough.

Timewalking Campaigns[]

Stormwind/Orgrimmar Embassy - New players
Hey there, <name>!
Traveling through time is quite dangerous. Adventure awaits when you've got a little more experience!
Orgrimmar Embassy - During the H [7-10] Welcome to Orgrimmar questline
Hey there, <name!>
If you're here to ask about timewalking, I'm afraid you'll need to become more familiar with the present before you can visit the past.
Maybe I can send you back once you've toured the city and met with the warchief!
Gossip Actually, I'd really like to try timewalking.
<Chromie clicks her tongue and examines you.>
Are you sure?
It's a big, wide world out there! It can be awfully easy to get lost.
Perhaps you have a friend to help you find your way? I really recommend it, if you're sure this is what you want.
Not to mention, I'd have to bend the time streams enough that you'll probably get separated from your current guide!
Gossip Yes, I'm sure.
A window pops up that reads, "This will skip the remaining tutorial and make you eligible for Chromie Time. You will not be able to return to the tutorial. Chromie Time will allow you to experience the stories of other expansions, with the world scaling to your current level. Are you sure you want to skip the remaining tutorial? [Accept]/[Cancel]"
Gossip Actually, nevermind.
Stormwind/Orgrimmar Embassy - Veterans (eligible for Timewalking Campaigns)
Hey there, <name>! Wherever you want to go, I can help you get there!
Time works in mysterious ways, but you don't look like a stranger to mystery.
Gossip Select a timeline.
The Timewalking Campaigns UI displays. If you select one and confirm, Chromie will give a brief response:
  • Who would have thought someone named Deathwing would bring about so much destruction? (The Cataclysm)
  • You look quite prepared! (Portal to Outland)
  • Do not exercise restraint when showing your great power to the Scourge! (Fall of the Lich King)
  • Whatever you do, do not get between a pandaren and their brew. It'll be unbearably painful if you do! (Wilds of Pandaria)
  • If a scary orc offers you something to drink, you probably want to say no. (The Iron Horde)
  • If you find a powerful weapon, just make sure it isn't corrupted by the Burning Legion or Old Gods, okay? (The Legion Invasion)
  • Death it is! And you know what they say... what doesn't kill you makes you stronger. (The Realms of Death)

Gossip I'd like to return to the present timeline, Chromie.

Reaching level 60
The future of Azeroth needs you to protect it, <name>!
A timer labeled "Timewalking Campaigns ends in" begins counting down. Its mouseover text reads, "You will be removed from Timewalking Campaigns and sent back to your capital city. More adventures await there!"
Take care of yourself out there.
Gossip at level 50 and above

The situation in Icecrown needs you. Without your help, Azeroth's future is doomed!

Dragonflight[]

Gossip[]

At level 60 and above

Hi, <name>!

Queen Alexstrasza is calling the dragonflights home to the Dragon Isles. We need the help of mortals like you to reclaim our ancestral lands!

Shifting Sands

Oh! It's you again! Or is it the first time?

Anyway, hello!

Temporal Conflux
I would never allow the Infinites to succeed, but I wish there was another way to get through to them aside from combat.
Gossip What is the Bronze Oathstone?
The Bronze Oathstone symbolizes the true calling of bronze flight to protect the timeways. Here at our temple, it focuses our power and allows us freedom to travel to whichever time we need to.
If it were corrupted by the Infinites, they would be able to unravel the timeways and then who knows what awful thing could happen. Even Nozdormu wouldn't be able to fix the damage.
Gossip Let me ask you something else...
Gossip Who is Eternus?
Eternus is an Infinite dragon. Her flight is devoted to deteriorating the timeways in pursuit of turning Nozdormu into the prophesied leader of the Infinites: Murozond.
We're lucky that the temple has good defenses. They might not have foreseen threats like Eternus, but even clear visions of the future can turn out different than when you first see them.
Gossip Let me ask you something else...
Gossip Who are the Infinite Dragonflight?
The Infinite Flight directly opposes the ideals of the Bronze Flight and the Timewalkers.
We're charged with upholding the timeways, but they believe that time shouldn't be contained in any way. Their ultimate goal is to force our Aspect and leader, Nozdormu, into a terrible future version of himself called Murozond.
We came into conflict with them years ago, and thought they were defeated. But it looks like we still have more work to do.
Gossip Let me ask you something else...
Gossip Who is Murozond?
Murozond is the counterpart to our own Aspect, Nozdormu.
We only know that he's some dark, future version of Nozdormu. After seeing his own death, he was tricked into shattering the timeways to save himself. That all backfired and caused his twisted transformation instead.
We faced Murozond and won several years ago when he tried to bring about the "End Time". We don't know if Eternus and the Infinites are trying to cause Nozdormu's transformation, or if they have something else planned.
Gossip Let me ask you something else...
Gossip Ask about Chromie's name.
I picked my visage because it fit me best. That's also why I kept the name Chronormu. That's my name, and I like it!
<Chromie smiles and winks.>
But you can still call me Chromie. Most of my friends do!
Gossip Let me ask you something else...

Caverns of Time, Warcraft Anniversary

Hello and welcome to the festivities! Unless you've already been here before, in which case, welcome back!

Heroes of the Storm trailer
"In the beginning..."
A clip from the World of Warcraft: Cataclysm cinematic trailer players, showing the creation of the Great Divide in the Barrens.
"Wait a minute, that's not... *sigh* Come on..."
Chromie rewinds the tape, instead showing a clip from the StarCraft II: Heart of the Swarm opening cinematic.
"In my most desperate hour... whoops, no no no, way too far!"
Chromie rewinds the tape once again.
"The Nexus! The marvelous anomaly to which the bronze dragonflight has sent me AS THEIR CHAMPION! Oh, hello again! Or is this the first time we've met? You might ask me, as a dragon, why I choose to be this size? Meh, it just works for me. I need to keep the very fabric of time and space from unraveling, like..."
The landscape twists into a nightmarish version of itself, filled with giant candy and enormous thunderstorms in the background, as Stitches rides backwards on a unicorn past the camera.
"... like that. Everyone knows it's not possible to be in several places at the same time."
Three different versions of Chromie — her original World of Warcraft model, Timewalker Chromie, and Fel Queen Chromie — appear.
"But past you, future you and future super creepy you? That's different times in the same place! And that's when we get to the fun!"
The various version of Chromie all use their abilities together to annihilate an incoming wave of enemy heroes, causing an enormous explosion as Chromie glances mischievously at the camera.
"Meh, don't worry, that's gonna get nerfed. Let's review."
Chromie rewinds almost the entire trailer.
"To all time and space, there's more power even in the smallest things..."
Chromie roars, briefly revealing her true, draconic form.
"... than you will ever know."

In Hearthstone[]

Hearthstone This section contains information exclusive to Hearthstone and is considered non-canon.

Chromie was available as an Arena-exclusive legendary card during the limited-time Taverns of Time event in Hearthstone. Her Battlecry effect generated four "Historical Epoch" spell cards, each based on a Caverns of Time instance from World of Warcraft.

In the Galakrond's Awakening adventure, players control Chromie in the Dragonslayer Skruk boss encounter. If the player dies, they restart the encounter as the dragon's much more powerful true form, Chronormu.

In Hearthstone lore, the time-traveling gnome Toki, Time-Tinker is stated to be friends with Chronormu.[49]

In Heroes of the Storm[]

Heroes of the Storm This section concerns content related to Heroes of the Storm and is considered non-canon.

Chromie is a playable character in Heroes of the Storm.[50]

Notes and trivia[]

  • Chromie apparently has at least eight spare pocketwatches.[51]
  • At some point in time, Chromie tossed [a coin] in the Dalaran fountain. The coin flavor text reads: "Just once, I wish someone would greet me without making a stupid joke about gnomes or time travel".
  • When the Dragon Aspects met at Wyrmrest Temple during the Cataclysm, Alexstrasza noticed that Chromie was absent. She noted that she considered the bronze to be both cheerful and powerful.[52]
  • The "chron" in "Chronormu" is derived from the Ancient Greek chronos (χρόνος), meaning "time".
  • The suffix "-ormu" is normally typical of the male bronze dragon naming pattern, while female bronze dragon names end in "-ormi". Chromie was believed to simply be an exception to this rule until the release of the "Visage Day" short story in Folk & Fairy Tales of Azeroth, which revealed that she is transgender but kept her birth name.
    • In Heroes of the Storm, one of Chromie's gag quotes states that "Chronormu" is not actually a male name and that mortals "clearly don't understand the intricacies of dragon culture".
  • Chronormu nearly fainted when she learned that Alexstrasza would officiate her Visage Day ceremony,[2] but during the Deaths of Chromie she's familiar enough with the Dragon Queen to call her "Allie".[24]
    • In her character interactions with Alexstrasza in Heroes of the Storm, Chromie reacts with nervousness and surprise upon learning that the Dragon Queen knows her name.
  • She is one of the NPCs that have a chance to appear as a Master Photobomber when using Inv misc selfiecamera 01 [S.E.L.F.I.E. Camera MkII] while under the effects of Inv misc bomb 01 [Photo B.O.M.B.].
  • Chromie briefly appears in Smokywood Pastures Presents: A Winter Veil Carol, taking the Forsaken Ebonizer Scrounge to the past.
  • Chromie was featured in the World of Warcraft: Classic announcement trailer.
    • During the BlizzCon 2018 demo, playtime was limited by a Mail gmicon [BlizzCon Exhaustion] debuff stating: "Chromie is only able to keep you anchored in the past for a limited time. Once exhausted, you will need to wait until she has regained enough energy before attempting to come back."
  • Chromie is voiced by Karen Strassman starting with Warlords of Draenor.
  • When checking a character's reputation levels on the official World of Warcraft website, Chromie's Friendship ranks are erroneously using a normal reputation scale (from Neutral to Exalted). For example, a Timelord level of friendship, the maximum achievable, is shown on the website as 6100/12000 Honored reputation.
