The Deathwing Scar was intended to be an area containing the warped entrance to Deepholm. It was located west of the Burning Steppes.[1] By the time World of Warcraft: Cataclysm went into closed beta, however, the location of Deathwing's entrance into Azeroth had already been changed to be the Maelstrom.[2] The original planned location of Deathwing Scar is now a nameless area that is simply part of the ocean. However, there is still a large scar bisecting the continent here, separating the southern regions of Khaz Modan from the northern ones.
Initially, Deathwing would emerge here and have made his way to Grim Batol, where he would bisect the mountain (currently seen from within the dungeon, but not externally). It is possible that the Scar of the Worldbreaker in the Badlands is a remnant of the Deathwing Scar area concept, as it could reasonably be on a route between the main Scar and Grim Batol.
Notes[]
- It seems this area was originally planned to be just part of the ocean as it now is, and later as a non-accessible zone in the Eastern Kingdoms before being concepted and eventually scrapped during the Cataclysm development.
