Dogs were formerly a family of tamable hunter pets, consisting of mastiffs and darkhounds. In patch 9.0.1, the family was renamed to hounds and expanded to include more types of dog-like beasts.
Patch changes[]
- Patch 9.0.1 (2020-10-13): Family renamed to hounds.
- Patch 6.0.2 (2014-10-14): [Lock Jaw] replaced with [Bark of the Wild].
- Patch 4.0.3a (2010-11-23): Are now tamable.
In the RPG[]
Fairly small dogs can weigh between 20 to 50 pounds in weight. Dogs generally hunt in packs, chasing and exhausting prey until they can drag it down. They can jump fairly well, and survive well when tracking by scent.[1]
Notes[]
- Originally, there was no specific dog model in World of Warcraft, and dogs were instead represented in-game using hyena or wolf models. The first dog model, the pug, was introduced in Wrath of the Lich King, followed by mastiffs in Cataclysm. With the release of Cataclysm, many existing dog NPCs like Fei Fei and Durnholde Tracking Hounds were changed to use pug or mastiff models, but some like Kyle and Tinkerbell continue using wolf models.
