Ability mount dreadsteed
Dreadsteed

A dreadsteed in World of Warcraft.

"The subjugation of a Xorothian Dreadsteed is a true measure of power."
Mor'zul Bloodbringer
[1]

The dreadsteed of Xoroth is the epic warlock ground mount. The Dreadsteed ability is learned at level 17 and requires both Apprentice riding skill (from the riding trainer) and the Spell nature swiftness [Felsteed] ability to learn.

Xoroth is the home planet of these fiery, horse-like demons, who serve as the mounts of the Dreadlords. The finest belong to the Nathrezim Dreadlord, Lord Hel'nurath the Stable-keeper.

With Inv misc codexofxerrath nochains [The Codex of Xerrath], the mount changes the color of its flames to green.

Earning the dreadsteed[]

Removed from game The subject of this section was removed from World of Warcraft in patch 4.0.1.
Main article: Dreadsteed questline

Originally, the dreasteed mount required the completion of an epic quest chain. In patch 2.4.0 the mount was added to class trainers; the quest chain remained available for those who still wanted to complete it until patch 4.0.1, when it was removed entirely.

The questline to obtain the Wrathsteed is similar to the original Dreadsteed questline, with the warlocks once again having to gather materials and summon demons from Xoroth.

In the RPG[]

Dreadsteed

Dreadsteed in the Monster Guide.

Icon-RPG This section contains information from the Warcraft RPG which is considered non-canon.
"This black horse has a grotesquely demonic appearance. Multiple spines and hard, bony plates cover its head and sides. Flames writhe around its hooves and eyes, and it snorts a short, fiery breath as it exhales."

Lord Hel’nurath’s fearsome dreadsteeds are his most prized possessions. Intensely bred and darkly twisted for war, they now roam the fiery Plains of Xoroth, the envy of many demonic lords.

It may be possible for a warlock to steal one of these fine beasts. The preparations for this caper would be difficult and expensive, and such an insult would not go unnoticed.[2]

Trivia[]

  • The Dreadsteed appears as an epic card for the Warlock class in the Grand Tournament expansion of Hearthstone. The flavor text reads: "Crescendo himself summoned this steed, riding it to victory in the Grand Tournament. Wherever he rides, an army of riders ride behind him, supporting the legendary champion."
    • The flavor text references Reddit user Crescendo1909, a Hearthstone fan who had been fighting cancer for half a year prior to the release of the Grand Tournament.
  • Tamsin's Dreadsteed in Hearthstone has an appearance of a felsteed even though it's named as a dreadsteed.
