Drenden is a human mage with a baritone voice.[1] He was a member of the Council of Six, the rulers of the Kirin Tor in Dalaran.
Background[]
Though not as powerful as Krasus, Drenden was known to have survived one of Deathwing's magical traps after the Second War. There was little mention of how seriously Drenden was hurt by the spell. He was said to be out of action for a while, but recovered rather quickly. Some time after, he and Modera visited King Terenas Menethil in Lordaeron to learn more of the relation between Deathwing and Lord Prestor.[1]
Prior to the Third War, Drenden and Modera accompanied Antonidas to confront Kel'Thuzad regarding the latter's experiments with necromancy.[2] They were unable to prevent Kel'Thuzad's escape, however, and the rogue mage eventually became the right hand of Arthas, the dreaded Lich King. Following these events, Drenden's whereabouts are unknown, though he survived the siege and subsequent destruction of Dalaran at the culmination of the Third War. By the time of the siege, Drenden was no longer a member of the Six.[3]
At some point in the years between the final Legion invasion and the Alliance and Horde's arrival at the Isle of Dorn, Drenden was murdered and replaced by the entity Xal'atath. The exact timing of this event, as well as what became of the archmage's body, is unknown, though Xal'athah claimed that he had been dead for years by that time. His identity was used by the entity to infiltrate the proceedings of the city and impede its defense against the Nerubians during the city's destruction.

- During the pre-quests for The War Within, Xal'atath impersonated Drenden and spoke briefly to Archmage Karlain.
- The PvE server Drenden is named after him.
