Xavius is the final boss of the Emerald Nightmare.

Background

Adventure Guide

Once a powerful mage, and a councilor to Queen Azshara, Xavius forged a pact with Sargeras to enable the Legion's first invasion of Azeroth. Cursed and tormented in the wake of that defeat, Xavius plots vengeance against the world from within the Rift of Aln. Those who venture into the Nightmare will face the full extent of his power, and his true form - a grotesque and distended monstrosity.

Overview

Most of Nightmare Lord Xavius's attacks inflict Corruption on their victims. As a player gains more Corruption, they become increasingly vulnerable to the power of the Nightmare, eventually losing control entirely and turning against their friends at maximum Corruption. Players' only hope lies in the power of Ysera, who puts many of them into a deep slumber and forms a Dream Simulacrum of those players. When their Simulacrum perishes, the affected player will awaken, as any Corruption gained by their Simulacrum dissipates harmlessly.

Damage Dealers

• Players affected by Dream Simulacrum should protect non-dreaming players by handling any abilities that spread Corruption.
• Defeat Inconceivable Horrors before they can get close enough to cast Dark Ruination on Xavius.
• Absorb Tainted Discharge before it can reform back into Inconceivable Horrors.

Healers

• Players affected by Dream Simulacrum should protect non-dreaming players by handling any abilities that spread corruption.
• Dispel Darkening Soul and Blackening Soul as sparingly as possible to manage the amount of Corruption you gain.
• Absorb Tainted Discharge before it can reform back into Inconceivable Horrors.

Tanks

• Players affected by Dream Simulacrum should protect non-dreaming players by handling any abilities that spread corruption.
• Move away from others when Darkening Soul and Blackening Soul is about to be dispelled from you.
• Quickly pick up Corruption Horrors when Manifest Corruption is cast.
• Absorb Tainted Discharge before it can reform back into Inconceivable Horrors.

Abilities

The Dream

When Xavius reaches 95% and 60% health, the Dream of Ysera puts half of the party into a Dreaming State. Affected players fall asleep while a Dream Simulacrum of them rises to fight Xavius. If the Dream Simulacrum should ever die, the player's actual body will awaken. All Nightmare Corruption gained by the Dream Simulacrum is lost when the player returns to their body.

Nightmare Corruption

Many of Xavius's spells spread Nightmare Corruption to those hit. The more corrupted a player becomes, the more the nightmare becomes real to the player. Should any player ever become completely corrupted, they will become dominated by Xavius.

• Dread Abomination — At 33 points of Corruption, colossal Nightmare creatures materialize from the player's mind, smashing the world around the player.
  •  Corruption: Crushing Shadows — Inflicts 1800000 Physical damage at the center. Allies further from the center take less damage. This damage ignores armor. Corruption: Crushing Shadows affects any player with more than 33 corruption.
•  Corruption: Unfathomable Reality — The essence of Nightmares erupts into this reality, inflicting 570000 to 630000 Fire damage and causes 5 Nightmare Corruption. Corruption: Unfathomable Reality affects any player with more than 66 corruption.
  •  ImportantCorruption: Descent into Madness — Increases damage and healing done by 150%. Upon expiration the player is overwhelmed by corruption, becoming Charmed and transforming into a Creature of Madness. Descent into Madness is triggered upon reaching 100 Corruption.

Stage One: The Descent Into Madness

•  Darkening Soul    — Xavius taints the target's soul, inflicting 150000 Shadow damage every 1 sec until removed. Dispelling this Darkening Soul inflicts 1140000 to 1260000 Shadow damage to all enemies in a 25 yd radius. The dispeller gains 25 Corruption and suffers Shadow damage.
  •  Darkened Tainting — The player dispelling Darkening Soul gains 25 Corruption and takes 600000 Shadow damage.
•  Nightmare Blades — A wall of blades erupts from the ground inflicting 1030750 to 1139250 Physical damage to anyone in the area and knocking them back. This damage ignores armor.
•  Manifest Corruption  — Xavius coalesces nightmare energy to create a Corruption Horror, inflicting 912000 to 1008000 Shadow damage to all enemies to all enemies in a 150 yd. radius.

    •  Corrupting Nova — Inflicts 798000 to 882000 Shadow damage to all nearby enemies. Anyone hit gains 5 Corruption
    •  Tormenting Swipe — Slashes at all enemies in front of caster, inflicting 1235000 to 1365000 Shadow damage. Anyone hit gains 10 Nightmare Corruption.
•  Lurking Eruption  — Nightmare energy erupts from below the target, summoning a Lurking Terror and inflicting 1000350 to 1105650 Shadow damage to all enemies in a 6 yd. radius.
  • Lurking Terror
    •  Tormenting Fixation — The Lurking Terror selects a target to Fixate on.
    •  Tormenting Detonation — The Lurking Terror explodes if it gets near an enemy, inflicting 1410750 to 1559250 Shadow damage and causing 30 Corruption to all nearby enemies.
    •  Tormenting Infection — The Lurking Terror infects the first enemy it gets near, inflicting 1045000 to 1155000 Shadow damage and causing 20 Corruption.

Stage Two: From the Shadows

Upon reaching 65% health remaining, Xavius intensifies his attack.

•  Blackening Soul    — Xavius blackens the target's soul, inflicting 150000 Shadow damage every 1 sec until removed. Dispelling this effect triggers Blackened on the target. The dispeller gains 25 Corruption and suffers Shadow damage.
  •  Blackened  — All Physical damage taken is increased 150%.
  •  Blackened Tainting  — The player dispelling Blackening Soul gains 25 Corruption and takes 600000 Shadow damage.
•  Corruption Meteor  — Deals 7000000 Shadow damage and spreads 40 Corruption, split between all enemies.
•  Bonds of Terror — Nightmare bonds tether a target to an ally, inflicting 111000 Shadow damage every 1 sec. to both. Standing within 3 yards of the ally dispels the Bonds of Terror.
•  Nightmare Infusion  — Empowers the melee attacks of Xavius, causing them to spread 5 Corruption to the target for 30 sec.
•  Call of Nightmares  — Xavius calls into the darkness of the nightmare, drawing forth Inconceivable Horrors to empower him.
  • Inconceivable Horror
    •  Dark Ruination — Overcharges Xavius with Nightmare energy, inflicting 225000 Shadow damage and causing 1 Corruption to all enemies every 1 sec. for 5 sec.
    •  Tainted Discharge — Corruption erupts from the target's body, leaving pools of corruption that inflict 270000 Shadow damage and spreads 4 Corruption every 1 sec. The Tainted Discharge dissipates as enemies stand in it. After 15 sec Tainted Discharge will reform into an Inconceivable Horror.

Stage Three: World of Darkness

Upon reaching 30% health remaining, Xavius calls upon the purest Nightmare to engulf his enemies.

•  Blackening Soul    — Xavius blackens the target's soul, inflicting 150000 Shadow damage every 1 sec until removed. Dispelling this effect triggers Blackened on the target. The dispeller gains 25 Corruption and suffers Shadow damage.
  •  Blackened  — All Physical damage taken is increased 150%.
  •  Blackened Tainting  — The player dispelling Blackening Soul gains 25 Corruption and takes 600000 Shadow damage.

Outro

As Xavius falls, the Rift of Aln dissipates around the raid; when vision is restored, the Emerald Nightmare has vanished, and the Dream has been restored. The corpse of Xavius - now reverted to his night elf form - lies some distance ahead. The cleansed spirits of the guardians of the Dream - Cenarius, Ursoc, Elothir, Elerethe Renferal and Thaon Moonclaw wait down the path.

Cenarius says: Heroes! Champions! Step forth and hear me!

Cenarius says: The Nightmare has long been a cancer eager to consume the Emerald Dream. Had Xavius succeeded, his corruption would have overwhelmed Azeroth, giving rise to a living Nightmare.

Cenarius says: Your triumph this day restores the Dream and safeguards your world. The allies of Xavius will never relent, but this road, at least, is closed to them.

Cenarius says: To honor your courage, I offer passage into the pure heart of the Dream. As you feel the essence of life blooming beneath your feet, know that it endures thanks to what you achieved this day.
