— High Abbot Landgren[1][2]

Landgren is a high-ranking leader of the Scarlet Onslaught, seemingly second only to High General Abbendis. He appears in the Scarlet Enclave and the Dragonblight as High Abbot Landgren, before dying, being resurrected and finally promoted to Archbishop Landgren in Onslaught Harbor in Icecrown.

Biography[]

Landgren originally served as high abbot of the Scarlet Crusade in the Scarlet Enclave. After getting the idea to create a new splinter faction of the Crusade, High General Abbendis prayed to the Light alongside Landgren for guidance on what the force should be called. The dreadlord Mal'Ganis, posing as the voice of the Light, told them to name it the "Scarlet Onslaught".[3] During the Scourge attack on the Enclave, Landgren and Abbendis were at the Scarlet Hold in New Avalon, fending off upset Citizens of Havenshire,[4] before "the Light" sent the both of them a vision of the Enclave's destruction, urging them to leave for Northrend with the newly-formed Scarlet Onslaught and abandon the rest of the Crusade to their fate.[5]

After the Onslaught made landfall in the Dragonblight, one month into the construction of New Hearthglen, Landgren proclaimed that the Light was going to send the Onslaught a visitor to lead them to victory. Shortly after, Mal'Ganis arrived in the guise of Admiral Barean Westwind, whom Landgren and Bishop Street took to with great zeal. The admiral passed on "a new blessing" from the Light to Landgren, leading to the formation of the raven priests.[5] Landgren added this new "blessing" to the ends of Onslaught prayer books.[6][7]

In order to find out more about the Onslaught, Agent Skully had Horde adventurers disguise themselves as a raven priest[8] and then speak with Landgren in the New Hearthglen abbey after luring away his Devout Bodyguards by ringing the abbey bell. Landgren agreed to speak in private and brought the adventurers to the cliffs above Crusader's Landing, where he revealed that he could see through their disguise and that "the Master" had warned him that the adventurers would come for him. Instead of allowing himself to be killed, Landgren then committed suicide by jumping off the cliff, in the hopes that Admiral Westwind would allow him to return.[1]

Landgren was later resurrected, promoted to archbishop, and put in charge of the Crimson Cathedral in Onslaught Harbor, in Icecrown. The Ebon Blade's Lord-Commander Arete sent adventurers to kill him a second time, then ripped out his soul and interrogated it on where Admiral Westwind was hiding. After being tortured, Landgren revealed that Westwind was hiding in the Hidden Hollow. Arete then destroyed his soul, saying that there would be "no resurrection for [him] this time".[2]
