Conjurer of Dalaran

Conjurer of Dalaran in the Hall of the Guardian.

Conjurers (also spelled conjuror) are seers of mystery, holders of secrets, and dwellers in dream. They are practitioners of the arcane arts, having learned through researching the ancient tomes to bend the forces of nature to do their will. They can make the energies of nature strike down opponents, summon forth great creatures or command the elements.[1] They are specialized in the school of conjuration, the study of magically creating creatures and objects, which they use to notably summon and control elemental familiars. Therefore, most conjurers are primarily mages.

However, among those who practice the secular arts, some may be called "conjurers".[2][3][4] Those warlocks and necromancers are specialized in the summoning of spirits, undead, and demons.

Prior to the First War, there was an order of conjurers who served the Kingdom of Stormwind. They were a secretive sect, and would only gather and train in their own specially-prepared mystic towers.[1] The royal household had its own court conjurer as well as several conjurer-lords.[5] The most famous conjurer of his time was Nielas Aran, father of Medivh the Last Guardian. Medivh himself had rebuked dozens of failed apprentices,[6] most of them from Stormwind and discreetly sent by Anduin Lothar.[7]

The mages of Stormwind were considered by their northern brethren as hedge wizards as they were not pupils of the Violet Citadel,[8] though some of them still belonged to the Council of Tirisfal. But this didn't mean that they were rogue mages or unorganized, for Stormwind had its own magical academy back then.[9]

The wizards of Stormwind were first intrigued and then terrified by the orcs' appearance, and sent many letters with information and then requests for aid to Dalaran as the situation grew more dire for them. The northern mages appreciated the orcs' danger but thought them little more than a local nuisance, confined to that continent, and as such didn't do much to help. During the conflict, Stormwind's spellcasters were individually stronger than the Old Horde's warlocks, but were far fewer in numbers and couldn't work in unison as well as the invaders.[10]

After the conclusion of the First War, the order was left utterly decimated by the Horde, but the Lordaeron mages who participated in the Second War learned of their defeat and trained themselves in more aggressive and destructive magics.[11]

Conjuror of the Tirisgarde[]

Legion This section concerns content related to Legion.

During the third invasion of the Burning Legion, the Tirisgarde was reformed in presence of many of Azeroth's greatest mages in the Hall of the Guardian, where they pledged allegiance to the order under the leadership of the "Conjuror of the Tirisgarde", a title that symbolizes the responsibility borne by the Tirisgarde.[12]

After they managed to defeat Kathra'natir and imprison him in the Violet Citadel, the Conjuror of the Tirisgarde were given the title of "Archmage" by Khadgar for their exploits.[13]

In the RPG[]

Icon-RPG This section contains information from the Warcraft RPG which is considered non-canon.

Conjurers are capable of summoning scorpions and water elementals as well as casting such potently destructive spells like Spell shadow rainoffire [Rain of Fire] and Shaman talent elementalblast [Elemental Blast]. Unlike the wizards and mages of the Kirin Tor, who focused on various aspects of the arcane arts, conjurers were primarily concerned with elemental and summoning magics. Conjurers sometimes become warlocks, highly specialized spellcasters who traffick with demonic entities. Upon becoming a warlock, the conjurer increases its devotion to the conjuration school, yet must forsake study in two other schools.[16]

Notes and trivia[]

  • Water elementals were the favorite tools of the Conjurors of Azeroth during the First War, as they were excellent creatures that would never turn upon their creators. [17]
    • They also chose them because the element of water was persistent and the opposite of fire, which seemed to be the element that the orcs favor.[18]
  • A conjurer is seen being killed in a flashback by Baron Valimar Mordis in Shadows of Ice.
  • A Human Conjurer takes the place of the queen in the Chess Event in Karazhan.
  • A conjurer is a wizard who specializes in conjuration magic in the Dungeons & Dragons role-playing game. Conjuration mostly consists of summoning spells, but healing spells (such as those cast by a cleric) are also considered conjuration.[19] Though it never received a formal article the Warcraft: The Roleplaying Game the class is referenced in DnD WRPG core book and a character with the class appears in Lands of Conflict. Spells from the conjuration school appear throughout both the Warcraft RPG and the World of Warcraft RPG.
