There is a talent that can reduce the delay before the fire nova totem goes off by up to 2 seconds, bringing the delay down to 2 seconds (If used together with a Tauren War stomp, fire nova totems can be used effectively in PVE). The totem doesn't seem to be that useful to use for dealing with a large number of mobs, as it seems to draw extremely high aggro -- mobs go right at it, and it just takes one whack and you've got almost 600 mana down the drain. However, it can be situationally useful in PvP. It can even be used in 1v1 PVP as a way to burst DPS.

Overview

Fire Nova Totem

Summons a Fire Nova Totem that has 5 health and lasts 5 sec. Unless it is destroyed within 4 sec., the totem inflicts XX Fire damage (see Description by rank level) to enemies within 10 yd.

Functionality

Like most Fire totem spells, the Fire Nova totem is an offensive totem for the sole purpose to give out damage to the caster's enemies (mobs and players alike).

Use

  • Casting Time: Instant Cast
  • Range: Not Applicable
  • Duration: 5 seconds
  • Cooldown: 15 seconds Cooldown
  • Scaling: Patch 1.11 added scaling for this totem -- unknown amount

Limitations

  • Must be within 10yd radius of the totem.
  • The totem of any rank has only 5 hp; it is easily destroyed by mobs and players.
  • The totem immediately draws aggro from mobs once it is put in the ground.
  • It takes 4 seconds (2 seconds with Improved Fire Nova Totem talent) for the totem to fully trigger its direct damage.
  • Useless against high Fire resistant players/mobs.
  • Second longest cooldown for a totem (if we exclude the Spell frost summonwaterelemental [Mana Tide Totem] talent spell).

Tips

There is a talent that can reduce the delay before the fire nova totem goes off by up to 2 seconds, bringing the delay down to 2 seconds (If used together with a Tauren War stomp, fire nova totems can be used effectively in PvE). The totem doesn't seem to be that useful to use for dealing with a large number of mobs, as it seems to draw extremely high aggro -- mobs go right at it, and it just takes one whack and you've got almost 600 mana down the drain. However, it can be situationally useful in PvP. It can even be used in 1v1 PvP as a way to burst DPS.

There is however a strategy you can follow without said talent against crowds of low (or not so low) level mobs, dropping a Spell nature stoneclawtotem [Stoneclaw Totem] and drawing aggro from you/your mates it is possible to release a Fire Nova Totem without it claiming the attention, you can even use a Spell fire selfdestruct [Magma Totem] thereafter in order to finish off remaining mobs.
