Fishing (Profession) | |
---|---|
- Fishing quests can not be completed while in a raid group. Instead you will receive 'empty' loot (you can still gain fishing skill points though).
- The quest fish is believed never to drop in a pool of fish. As a result, you must fish outside a pool of fish (anywhere in the water, just not in a pool) in order to complete the quest. This does not encourage good fishing practices.
- Although not numerically verified, it is believed that a higher fishing skill will result in a (much) better catch rate. Basically, in Outland you will always want to use a fishing lure; the only place this isn't necessary would be in Stormwind or Orgrimmar because your fishing skill will probably already be capped.
- At level 70, you can obtain daily fishing quests. Those quests do not have any explicit fishing skill requirement, but the areas which must be fished for the quests do (note with patch 3.1 these requirements have changed). In practice most of them require a high fishing skill (approx 250 minimum, 300+ recommended) and additional fishing skill buffs from fishing equipment, especially fishing lures. These quests often reward the character with fishing equipment, most often (approx. 75% chance) with a small stack (4 to 6) of [Sharpened Fish Hook]s, a +100 fishing skill fishing lure, so the fishing skill buffs become somewhat self sustaining. The recipe for [Captain Rumsey's Lager], a consumable which provides a +10 fishing skill buff, has a just under 10% chance to be awarded. These buffs will help you level your fishing, but become vital when you want to fish the most difficult areas.
- One daily fishing quest, [30 Daily] Crocolisks in the City requires only fishing skill 1 (but the cities are tier 2 fishing zones so a [Shiny Bauble] fishing lure will be helpful if you are just starting out fishing).

Weekly Fishing Quests[]
Stranglethorn Fishing Extravaganza[]
On 13 September 2005 Patch 1.7 introduced Stranglethorn Fishing Extravaganza held in Booty Bay every Sunday from 2pm till 4pm (server time). With Pandaria the time was changed to 2pm to 4pm PST for US servers.
Kalu'ak Fishing Derby[]
Patch 3.3 introduced Kalu'ak Fishing Derby, Elder Clearwater stands in Dalaran close to Marcia Chase for one hour awaiting the return of the quickest, most experienced fisher to bring him a [Blacktip Shark]. Every Saturday beginning at 2 pm (server time) players can try to catch the elusive [Blacktip Shark]. [Blacktip Shark] is catchable from any fish pool in Northrend.
Due to problems that occurred with the introduction of cross-realm zones, all fishing tournaments where disabled. When they were reenabled in Patch 5.1.0 however, the Stranglethorn Fishing Extravaganza had been redesigned to allow three winners, and included the rewards from winning the fishing derby. Thus the Kalu'ak Fishing Derby became redundant, and was removed altogether.
Patch changes[]
- Hotfix (2009-04-16): Certain fishing nodes for one of the fishing daily quests should no longer be spawned on land.[1]
