Forums: Village pump → Level, ilvl, and honor talent changes in SL

I noticed that a number of changes took place during Shadowlands, such as the level squish, as well as a stat squish and a rework of honor talents. Some old articles such as Inv pants 04 [Marshal's Lamellar Legplates] still list their old level and ilvl requirements; Spell deathknight runetap [Rune Tap] now requires level 19 (down from 60) -- although massive props to User:Foxboy666 for fixing a great number of other abilities!; Spell fire felimmolation [Cleansed by Flame] doesn't require PvP ranks, and so on and so forth.

Many of these changes affect or are reflected on a wide number of pages. I'm curious if there are bots available to help with updating the values from wowhead, game data, or similar data sources; or if automated fixes are even possible. Thanks in advance! --Techhead7890 Talk Contribs 13:37, 12 April 2021 (UTC)

From a regular wiki bot? Maybe if you know how to grab the information from the game data, else it just has been more manual work. I'm not particularly a fan of using Wowhead data as it can be out-of-date, incorrect, or actually missing something (most recently Cosmetic tag). I would just rely on in-game information. There is a gadget that let's you create new item pages easily - or update existing itemtips from Wowhead to make the process faster anyways, and could just use that as a base and update with whatever information from in-game that should be added / changed. — SurafbrovWowpedia administrator T / C 18:04, 12 April 2021 (UTC)
Very late reply, but I'm curious if an initial step would be to use the values on the level squish table to replace old pre-SL mob infobox levels (with some sanity checks such as being in the appropriate range for that time period, presumably). Obviously not a super high priority as people don't tend to rely on the wiki for such information these days, but it may be a step towards tidying things up a bit. we actually do have a system in place for mobs & NPC’s! suraf has sent a bot through a bunch of mob categories to replace their previous levels with the name of the zone they’re in, which invokes Template:Level to automatically show the current scaling range for that zone. that’s still in progress, afaik.
unfortunately there’s no way to reliably predict abilities’ post-squish levels; a lot of abilities were squished less than the player characters themselves (character levels are what that table shows), or in some cases weren’t squished at all or even went up in level.
and then items are kind of in a weird place. they have a lot of numbers on ‘em besides their level, and we don’t currently have any of that automated, so i get the feeling it’d be difficult to bot. i’d really like to do something to reduce the amount of maintenance that item pages need, but so far nothing has happened on that front.
