Forums: Village pump → Odd classes in lore infoboxes

Recent edits on Daelin's page got me thinking if lore pages should list RTS classes that are weird/not supported in lore. What I found is Grom being a grunt and blademaster in W2 and W3 respectively and Malfurion being keeper of the grove; neither of those are anywhere else in canon sources, and each hero has specific RTS pages that already list those. Now, looking at Gul'dan (Warcraft II), his unit is Death Knight, but his lore page's infobox doesn't list that. Kargath WC 2 has grunt as his base unit, but his lore infobox doesn't list that either. Also found Thrall being a farseer, but I'm not sure if he was called farseer somewhere, and can't think of any source off the top of my head.

So should we clean Grom's and Malfurion's (and maybe Thrall's) infobox of those classes or is it fine as it is? --HordeRace bloodelf male Mordecay (talk) 17:10, 23 April 2021 (UTC)

My gut feeling is that when it comes to important lore characters, we should not list their RTS classes if they're evidently only a gameplay classification that's contradicted or unsupported by canon, since I think this could lead to confusion for readers. Since we use icons like WC3RoC-logo to denote both "This is lore that comes from <game>" and "This is about gameplay from <game>" in different contexts, simply having a WC3RoC-logo next to "paladin" in Daelin's infobox is not really enough to make it clear to readers that it's referring to his WC3 unit's classification rather than WC3 lore, in my opinion.
In other words, I would say: no listing Daelin as a paladin, Grommash as a blademaster, or Gul'dan as a death knight. No strong feelings on Grom and Kargath being grunts in WC2, since "grunt" is a fairly generic label that could plausibly fit them in canon. -- IconSmall TrollDeathKnight Male DeludedTroll (talkcontribs) 21:24, 23 April 2021 (UTC)
I think it's probably fine to just keep that on the pages for the RTS units themselves, if it's not referenced anywhere else and then keep it off the lore pages. PeterWind (talk) 23:58, 23 April 2021 (UTC)
Probably keep it to the RTS unit articles, yea. Admiral Proudmoore (Warcraft III) § Notes I think is a good example to give an explanation. — SurafbrovWowpedia administrator T / C 01:26, 24 April 2021 (UTC)

Okay agreed with the above. Removing the Grommash and Malfurion blademaster and keeper of the grove respectively as they are the weirdest ones. I'm going to leave the grunt bit for Grom and Kargath and the farseer for Thrall, but feel free to revise them if you think it's needed. --HordeRace bloodelf male Mordecay (talk) 09:13, 3 May 2021 (UTC)
