Inv glyph primedruid20
  • Glyph of Moonfire
  • Prime Glyph
  • Use: Permanently teaches you this glyph.

Increases the periodic damage of your Moonfire ability by 20%.
  • Classes: Druid
  • Requires Level 25
  • Sell Price: 1s

The Glyph of Moonfire shifts the damage of a druid's Spell nature starfall [Moonfire] spell so that the initial damage is inconsiderable but the damage over time is much higher. It results in an increase to the spell's total damage, but removes the instant burst damage. Because the damage over time component is more powerful, it pairs well with a Inv glyph primedruid [Glyph of Starfire] which increases the duration of Moonfire's damage over time by three seconds when Starfire hits.

Calculations[]

These numbers are here to help you choose whether or not to use this glyph. They are based on max ranks for a level 80 (WotLK) Balance Druid. Your moonfire spell deals instant damage of [ 435 + 15% spellpower ] and applies a dot of [ 200 + 13% spellpower ] per tick. When the Spell nature natureguardian [Nature's Splendor] talent is active, you deal, without the glyph, a total [ 1435 + 80% spellpower ]. With the glyph, you deal a total [1750 + 112% spellpower]. The DPS increase from this glyph is thus about [ 21 + 2.1% of spellpower] per second. For someone with 3000 spellpower, this would mean around a 84 dps increase (discounted from all damage buffs, debuffs and talents). For comparison, Inv glyph primedruid [Glyph of Insect Swarm] grants a damage increase of about [ 30 + 3% spellpower] per second.

Notes[]

This glyph is very strong for any Balance Druid. It combines well with Glyph of Insect Swarm to empower the Druid's DoTs. It also has good synergy with Glyph of Starfire, which increases the length of the DoT. A major drawback, however, is that it greatly reduces instant damage possibilities for a Druid. Therefore, many Arena PvP Druids prefer not to use this Glyph, in order to more easily finish off low health foes with Moonfire blasts. (Preferably using slightly downranked spells to avoid cutting the DoT.)
