Gold Veins rarely spawn in place of Iron Deposits or Mithril Deposits; as a result, they can be found in any zone where iron or mithril is found.

With Mining (1) in retail or Mining (155) in Classic, these veins can be looted for:
[Gold Ore] (guaranteed if Mining is 155 or higher)
[Gold Ore Nugget] (if Mining is 154 or lower; retail only)
[Citrine] (rare)
[Jade] (rare)- [Lesser Moonstone] (rare)
Quest items[]
Gold Veins in Felwood can also contain 
[Tainted Vitriol] if the player has a 
[Cenarion Beacon] in their inventory.
