The Guardian of Azeroth is a position held by carefully selected mages, appointed by the Kirin Tor. The Guardian exists to protect the realm,[1] and is expected to provide assistance to the Kingdom of Stormwind when requested; they cannot refuse the king if summoned.[2] The Guardian is charged with staying aloof from others in order to protect them.[3]
There is only one Guardian at a time, but Guardian Novitiates are trained in preparation for replacing the current Guardian. There have been several generations of the Guardians.[4] Known Guardians are Quelen and Medivh who trained under Antonidas, one of the Council of Six.[5] The Guardians live in the Tower of Karazhan aided by Moroes and a small community of servants.[6] Alodi is a large magical cube which the Kirin Tor believe to have served a function similar to that of the Guardian prior to the Kirin Tor's existence.[7]
Notes[]
- Khadgar was the Guardian Novitiate, prior to his leaving the Kirin Tor and his training, believing himself not to be "Guardian material".[8]
- Alodi tells Khadgar that 'Guardian' is just a name and that the true guardians of Azeroth are the people themselves.
- Khadgar believes that the Guardian should not be isolated and fight the darkness alone.
Trivia[]
- The main universe equivalent term Guardian of Tirisfal is not used in the film universe.
