Hack and Slash gives the Rogue a chance to deliver a second blow to the same target, while wielding a one-handed sword or axe.
Notes[]
The best weapon spec for PvE as it provides the biggest DPS boost, assuming you have no problem obtaining good swords or axes.
Hack and Slash can proc off both normal attacks (white damage) and attacks such as [Killing Spree],
[Blade Flurry],
[Sinister Strike] and
[Fan of Knives].
A good choice of Specialization, particularly considering that the second attack has the same chance of going critical as any other attack.
Especially useful to human rogues, due to their racial [Sword Specialization].
It can proc off both the main hand attack and the off hand attack, if there is a sword or axe equipped in the appropriate slot.
The extra attack is always done by the weapon in the main hand. Thus, if you have a good fist weapon, it is a good idea to spec fist and sword/axe, and keep a fist weapon in the main hand and a sword/axe in the off hand. In that situation your extra attacks from sword/axe specialization procs will be done by the fist weapon with +5% crit chance.
Patch changes[]
Patch 4.0.1 (2010-10-12): Removed.
Patch 3.2.0 (2009-08-04): Sword Specialization: This talent is now called Hack and Slash and applies to axes as well as swords.
Patch 2.1.0 (2007-05-22): This ability now grants extra yellow attacks instead of extra white attacks. This change will make Sword Specialization no longer reset the weapon swing timer when it triggers off special attacks, and results in a net increase in damage dealt.
Patch 1.3.0 (2005-03-07): Added a visual to Sword Specialization "proc" that will now show up in the combat log as well.
