For other uses, see Holy (disambiguation).

Holy magic,[1] or energy, also called Light magic,[2] and sometimes referred to as divine power[3] is the manifestation of the Light in the Great Dark Beyond.[4][5] It can be used for healing, defending or hurting, even restore life to the dead,[6][7] and is extra efficient against the undead and demons.[8]

Practitioners and races

This article or section includes speculation, observations or opinions possibly supported by lore or by Blizzard officials. It should not be taken as representing official lore.
  • Tauren Seers and Sunwalkers claim to draw their power from the sun, which they call An'she, the right eye of the Earth Mother according to their mythology. The connection between their power source and the Light is not elaborated on. The Ultimate Visual Guide writes that the tauren revere "An'she (the Light)".[14] This may mean two things:
    • An'she, the Sun, is made of Light, and they draw power from it. This would not be the first time in history as the Arakkoa too drew Holy magic from their sun.[2]
    • Alternatively, the tauren are drawing power from the Light, which they unknowingly call and believe to be An'she.

Notes

  • Jaina Proudmoore referred to Khadgar as a practitioner of the divine magic,[15] implying the arcane magic, rather than holy magic.
  • The opposite of "holy" is often considered to be "dark" powers such as shadow magic with shadow priests, demonic magic known as fel with warlocks, and necromantic with necromancers.
    • This good-evil concept is present both in lore and occasionally game mechanics.
