In the Shadow of the Sun is a short story by Sarah Pine featured on the official site. It is the eleventh in the Leaders of Azeroth series and centers on the blood elves' regent lord Lor'themar Theron.
The story was originally a piece of fan fiction that won the grand prize in Blizzard's 2008 Global Creative Writing Contest. A slightly edited version was later released as official lore on January 18, 2012.[1]

- In the story, Aurora Skycaller and Renthar Hawkspear tell Lor'themar that Nathanos Marris died at the hands of the Scourge but never became Scourge himself, instead being called to Sylvanas' service before Arthas had a chance to sway his will. However, Nathanos himself told Horde players that he was raised as a member of the Scourge before later being freed by Sylvanas,[2] a version of events supported by Dark Mirror and World of Warcraft: Sylvanas.
