Ingvar was a legendary vrykul warrior and the first and only Valarjar to wield the Warswords of the Valarjar.[1] Odyn considered Ingvar to be his greatest champion.[2]

Biography[]

In life, Ingvar was a renowned fighter. Always aggressive, he once led a raiding party to investigate a cave filled with dark magic, and discovered a pack of creatures that had been corrupted by the Old God C'Thun. The vrykul were greatly outnumbered, but stayed and fought instead of running. Most of them fell in minutes, but Ingvar remained standing. Though badly wounded, he fought his way through the cave and destroyed every enemy inside. After he died, the Val'kyr Helya sent Ingvar's spirit to the Halls of Valor, where Keeper Odyn welcomed him with open arms. Odyn declared Ingvar a paragon among the Valarjar for his noble sacrifice and granted him the Warswords of the Valarjar, weapons which Odyn had previously declared would be granted only to the greatest among the order. In times of peril, Ingvar was always the first to lead the Valarjar into battle.

However, not long thereafter, Helya rebelled against Odyn and magically trapped him and nearly all of the Valarjar inside the Halls of Valor. Ingvar was one of the few Valarjar who happened to be outside the Halls at the time. He took his warswords and immediately retaliated in the hopes of defeating Helya and freeing Odyn. He realized that he was unlikely to win against the powerful Val'kyr, but there was no one else to make the attempt. He found his adversary and almost managed to kill her with the warswords, but in the end she overpowered and destroyed him. His swords fell to Azeroth, among the few Valarjar artifacts to not be trapped in the Halls. Helya kept the blades as a memento of her victory over Odyn and later granted them to her own champion, the Kvaldir Vigfus Bladewind.[1]
