The Inkgill jinyu are based in Inkgill Mere in Kun-Lai Summit.
Elder Shai Hu drank the sha-corrupted waters of the mere, and forced the others to do the same. When Waterspeaker Gorai protested, Orachi of the town guard confiscated his ritual staff and banished him.[1] Not all of the villagers were corrupted. Many heeded Gorai's warnings and did not drink of the sha-tainted waters. They went into hiding, terrified, and intimidated by the guards.[2]
Merchant Shi arrived at the mere to trade, but his caravan was instead attacked by the jinyu. His son, Wu-Peng, ran off in the confusion,[3] and they also took the caravan's food supplies,[4] and killed pandaren guards.
Adventurers of the Alliance and Horde arrived at the mere, finding Gorai and Shi. The adventurers were sent to the town to kill the corrupted jinyu, find and rescue Wu-Peng and uncorrupted jinyu, and recover stolen supplies as well as Gorai's ritual staff from Orachi. With his staff, he called upon an ancient ritual to purify mental corruption on the bodies of several fallen jinyu. The spell also caught the nearby Swordmistress Mei and the sha erupted from her. Upon seeing this, Gorai understood what happened to his kinsmen.[5] Although he wanted to purify all of my corrupted brethren, he couldn't allow leaving the uncorrupted ones to go leaderless, so he decided to cleanse the mere itself, stopping the spread of the corruption.[6] As soon as he heard the mere's spirit, he resolved to defeat Shai Hu at the Waterspeaker's Sanctuary.[7]
The uncorrupted jinyu united under Gorai, and they wanted to find a new village to live in and were discussing if they should join the Pearlfin in the Jade Forest. However, as he and Inkgill Captives were later captured and brought to the Underhold beneath Orgrimmar, it is unknown if they managed to get there.
During the Burning Legion's third invasion, Waterspeaker Ryuli was still present in the Inkgill Mere.
