Jewel Danio have a high chance to be caught from Jewel Danio Schools, which can be found on the Timeless Isle. They also have a common chance to be caught when fishing in open water on the isle with high enough fishing skill. Prior to Patch 5.4 and Garrosh Hellscream's destruction of the Vale of Eternal Blossoms, they were found exclusively in that zone. When almost all of the lakes and rivers were drained in the shockwave of Garrosh throwing the Heart of Y'Shaarj into the waters in front of Mogu'shan Palace, Cloud Serpents were able to save them from extinction by transporting them in little buckets to the Timeless Isle.
It is a highly-prized cooking material in that it is an ingredient in the most powerful raid feast items of the Mists of Pandaria expansion.
The Jewel Danio's favorite treats are fireflies that fly low on the water.
They can also be purchased from Nam Ironpaw at Halfhill Market in Valley of the Four Winds; one 
[Ironpaw Token] purchases a 
[Sack of Jewel Danio] which contains five of them.

- Patch 5.4.0 (2013-09-10): With the lakes and rivers in the Vale of Eternal Blossoms drained of water, the Cloud Serpents carried little buckets of Jewel Danio and relocated them to the Timeless Isle so they can thrive once more.
