Khanam Matra (also written khanam matra,[1] sometimes just khanam[2][3]) is the title given to the leader of Clan Teerai, who acts as the cultural khan of all Maruuk centaur. All Khanam Matras can trace their bloodlines back to the Maruuk's first matriarch, Teera.[1] The daughters of a Khanam Matra are given the special title or surname Dotur, and they dedicate their lives to upholding traditions and serving the Maruuk in many ways. When a Khanam Matra dies, a new one is chosen from her daughters and granddaughters, ensuring the continuation of Teera's bloodline.[4] The Khanam Matra is protected by the khansguard. The current holder of the title is Khanam Matra Sarest.
