Kosumoth the Hungering spawns in the uninstanced Eye of Azshara zone south of Dalaran. It respawns every five to ten minutes. Every two weeks attuned players may kill him for a world quest that rewards either the [Fathom Dweller] or [Hungering Claw]. The reward is chosen randomly, with the mount much rarer.
Attunement[]
Kosumoth spawns on its own, but attunement (and loot) is gained by players clicking on Hungering Orbs that spawn all over the Broken Isles. To start the summoning process, find Drak'thul at [37, 71] at a small camp on the southern tip of the Broken Shore and exhaust his dialogue.
Then acquire the [Weathered Relic] from the Mound of Dirt at the back of Feldust Cavern (mouth at [58.4, 54.5]), a hidden cave that used to be blocked by rocks. This object is virtually camouflaged against the background of the cave floor; you're looking for two small round dirt piles on top of a dead branching tree limb. Exhaust Drak'thul's dialogue again.
Note the table in Drak'thul's area. It has rocks on it that give one a vague idea of the coordinates, using the orb and candle as a stand-in for Suramar City and the Tomb of Sargeras, and navigating from there.
Then start clicking on the orbs in the following order:
- [37, 37] south of Nor'Danil Wellspring in Azsuna, hidden among the leaves at the base of a tree. The nearest flightpath is either Illidari Stand or Azurewing Repose.
- [33, 76] on the west side of Kingsfall Pass in Stormheim; watch out for Kangaxx! The nearest flight paths are Lorna's Watch or Crimson Thicket in Suramar.
- [41, 80] in southwestern Val'sharah, north of Smolderhide Thicket near Sabermaw Bluff, hidden among the leaves at the base of a tree. There is a wisp floating around that marks the spot and kill the Arcane Servitor guarding the orb. The nearest flight paths are Lorlathil or Challiane's Terrace.
- [29, 78] in fatigue waters southwest of the Broken Shore. Use a source of water breathing and follow the seabed southwest from [31, 75] until it drops off a cliff. Look under an outcrop for a cave opening. Enter the cave to leave fatigue waters and find the orb under a lean-to at [32.9, 74.6]
- [59, 13] in the Ley-Ruins of Zarkhenar, Azsuna. Look for an arcane-infused tree near the north end of the crevasse and find a cave mouth hidden among the bushes. The nearest flight paths are Felblaze Ingress and Azurewing Repose.
- [67, 14] (on the continent map, not the zone map) at Sotnar's Rest north of Shield's Rest (the nearest flight path) in Stormheim. Look for the ruined statue poking out of the water. Southwest of the statue is a neutral Toothless Great White guarding the entrance. Swim beneath and enter a small gap between the rocks, then turn around, heading due south to enter the underwater cave. Watch out for the steam!
- [55, 38] northeast of Skyhorn (the nearest flight path) on the northeastern face of Heymanhoof Slope in Highmountain. On foot, the trailhead up the slope begins at [53, 35] in the Haglands. Roughly 3/4 of the way up, stop at [55.2, 38.3] and look down. Search for a tarp flanked by trees covering the mouth of a small cave. The orb is not in the obvious cave! Look to the right (south) of the main cave mouth under the tarp for a second, smaller cave hidden behind some trees. The orb is in the skull at the back of the cave.
- [54, 26] at the base of a tree north of Llothien east of Azurewing Repose (the nearest flight path) in Azsuna. Like the other hidden-by-tree caves, the mouth of the cave is covered by bushes. Look for the second column in the cave to find the orb at [54.4, 24.4] covered by a small bush
- [79, 89] offshore of the southeastern coast of the Eye of Azshara in the open world, not in the instance. Look for an upside-down sunken ship. On the southeast end of the ship, search for two small fish in the bushes, then swim into the ship. Once inside, swim through the wall heading west, or go up and over via the deck above. Toward the back of the ship at [77.7, 89.0] is some more suspicious plant life hiding the entrance to another underwater cave. The orb is at [75.0, 83.4] under some small waterfalls on the northern end of the cave
- [37, 71] on the map next to Drak'thul
Upon interacting with the last orb,
- Drak'thul says: I thank you for ceasing the whispers; the endless hungering cries of the void are now yours to bear.
The world quest [45REWQ] DANGER: Kosumoth the Hungering will immediately appear. Find a group and take it out. The quest will respawn every 2 weeks.
Should players lose track, the following macro can be used to check what orbs have been clicked:
/run local a={43730,43731,43732,43733,43734,43735,43736,43737,43760,43761}for i,q in ipairs(a)do print(format("Orb %s: %s",i, IsQuestFlaggedCompleted(q) and "\124cFF00FF00Done\124r" or "\124cFFFF0000Not Done\124r")) end
After a number of orbs have been interacted with, the following server message appears for all players online:
- Azeroth itself recoils as <name> unleashes an ancient evil.
- Kosumoth the Hungering walks the land once more...
