A lance is a weapon usually carried by knights[1] and other mounted warriors.[2] Using this weapon on horseback gives them an advantage against enemies that are on foot.[1]
In World of Warcraft[]
The Argent Tournament makes use of the lance as a requirement to activate a jousting mount. Several varieties exist: 
[Argent Lance], [Alliance Lance], [Horde Lance]. All are equivalent for purposes of allowing access to a jousting mount.
[Twilight Firelance] is used during questing in Mount Hyjal.

A lancer is a cavalryman who fights with a lance. Human lancers were used in the defense of Stormwind City during the First War.[3]
