"You've come far, my young student. I see within you a great hero. I leave the fate of this land to you."
Master Shang Xi is an elderly pandaren monk and quest giver found on the Wandering Isle and the leader of the Shang Xi's Academy.
History[]
He was a skilled teacher of martial arts and philosophy. Rather than telling his students what to believe, he introduced them to ideas and let them find their own way.[3]
At one time, Li Li Stormstout got into trouble with him several times, but he always forgave her. She described him as a very noble and brave pandaren.[4]
Shang is the master of many aspiring pandaren adventurers on the Wandering Isle, as he leads the Shang Xi Training Grounds. Among his students were the adventurer, Ji Firepaw and Aysa Cloudsinger. Compassionate and wise, Shang Xi sensed Shen-zin Su's illness which led to the discovery of the Alliance and Horde forces on the Wandering Isle.[3]
After finally making his way to the Wood of Staves and passing on his wisdom to his greatest student, he passed away and found peace. His students remained true to his legacy and were successful in saving Shen-zin Su, something that his spirit could witness and appreciate. When his students departed from the Wandering Isle, his spirit saluted them and finally went to rest with the land.

- Gossip (Shang Xi Training Grounds)
I seek more than anything to help young pandaren explore their potential within these grounds. True mastery comes with much time and much practice, but there is value even in finding the first beginnings of a fitting path.
- Gossip ( [1-20] The Singing Pools)
It is crucial that we bring all of the three remaining spirits back safely. I am too old to do this myself, and for all their strengths, both Aysa and Ji are single-minded in their ideals. You possess all the qualities of a hero, and a balance that they do not. It is you that must do this.
- Gossip ( [1-20] Worthy of Passing)
Things that are done, it is needless to speak about... things that are past, it is needless to blame.
