Casting Frostbolt or Flurry grants you an Icicle. Casting Ice Lance causes all Icicles stored to begin launching at the target, each dealing (0.1% of Spell power) Frost damage.
Up to 5 Icicles can be stored. Any excess Icicles gained will be automatically launched.
Increases the damage of Frozen Orb, Blizzard, and Comet Storm by 9%.
Increases the damage of Ice Lance, Glacial Spike, and Ray of Frost by 6%
Mastery: Icicles is the Frost magemastery effect, improved by the mastery secondary stat. It allows the mage to generate and store Icicles by casting [Frostbolt] or [Flurry], and unleash them with [Ice Lance]. It also increases damage dealt by [Frozen Orb].
Notes[]
Base mastery is 8%. Every 1% of mastery increases [Frozen Orb] damage by approximately 1.8%. The Icicles' damage is based on a combination of mastery and spell power.
Taking the [Glacial Spike] talent will cause Ice Lance to no longer launch Icicles. Excess Icicles will continue to passively launch.
Hotfix (2023-01-09):Reduced Glacial Spike's damage increased from [Mastery: Icicles] by 25%.
Patch 9.1.5 (2021-11-02): Damage increased by 12%.
Patch 9.0.1 (2020-10-13): Now learned at level 10 (was 78).
Patch 8.2.0 (2019-06-25): Damage bonus increased by 15%.
Patch 8.0.1 (2018-07-17): Icicle damage is now based on the caster's mastery and spell power, rather than Frostbolt damage. Icicles are now granted by Flurry in addition to Frostbolt. Additionally, this mastery will now increase Frozen Orb damage, and no longer affects the Mage's Water Elemental.
Hotfix (2014-02-26):Resolved an issue where Icicles stored by Frost Mage's Mastery: Icicles was dealing more damage than intended when used against party or raid members that are under a Mind Control or Charm effect from NPCs in PvE.
