Why can't you dig without your buddy?
- It's too dangerous to go alone!
- Once, when I was a young pup, I caught wind of a scent that I'd never experienced. It had all the rich quality of green growth, but with spicy, woody undertones! We were taught never to go alone, but nobody was available. I chose to risk it--how bad could it be, with a smell like that?
- When I arrived, there was a big set of buttons where I had to press them in the right order. I figured out the pattern, and got through to a special prize, only for the buttons to reset on a timer! The ledge I was on fell away, and I fell down, down...
- I was laying there on my back, all alone. There was only the ticking of the puzzle gears around me--nothing soft to dig through. I was so dizzy. I thought that was it.
- What happened next?
- But then Effervesta was there--she snuck out and followed me!
- She solved the puzzle and was standing next to me. She'd come to help me. I was going to be okay.
- <Myrrit rubs his face and smiles.>
- So it went from the worst day of my life, to the day Effervesta and I became a team! It wasn't a perfect day, but it was my favorite day. On digs after that, we'd always help each other. She's even more reckless than I am! But that's fine.
- <Myrrit's voice falls quiet.>
- Effervesta is my very best friend. I'd do anything to do more adventures with her. But I feel like that time might be over.
- Do you have a crush on Effervesta?
- A crush? That sounds unpleasant.
- Oh, is that some kind of uplander thing? What do you mean?
- It sounds like you have feelings for Effervesta.
- Feelings? I do!
- I love her--she's my very best friend.
- We grew up as pups together, saved each other from peril during digs. She's like a sister to me. We're pretty open about love here--if there was more than that, I would've told her already.
- This isn't about that, though. It's about our adventures, all the memories together. I just want them to still matter.

- I... hadn't thought about it. I guess I was so focused on Effervesta.
- I want somebody that really loves adventure. They need to be brave and trustworthy. They don't have to be great at puzzles or digging--but they have to never give up!

- I don't want to replace Effervesta. But I could have another dig buddy, right?
