Virulent Plague A disease that deals (112.5% of Attack power) Shadow damage over 27 sec. It erupts when the infected target dies, dealing (24% of Attack power) Shadow damage to nearby enemies.

Trivia

• This ability was mentioned in the April Fools' Day patch 6.1.4 Evil Patch Notes: "Outbreak no longer applies [Blood Plague] and [Frost Fever]. Instead, it applies a new, airborne version of a virus first encountered 30 years ago. Enemy players will have to work together to develop a new serum to cure the virus before the military bombs the whole city."

• Patch 10.1.5 (2023-07-11): Virulent Plague's duration is no longer reduced by 45% in PvP combat.
  
• Patch 10.0.5 (2023-01-24): Virulent Plague no longer deals increased damage in PvP combat (was increased by 30%).
  
• Patch 10.0.0 (2022-10-25): Now a row 3 Unholy talent (was a level 17 Unholy ability).
  
• Patch 9.1.5 (2021-11-02): Virulent Plague damage increased by 30% in PvP combat.
  
• Hotfix (2021-02-08): Virulent Plague is no longer reduced by 10% when engaged in combat with enemy players.
  
• Hotfix (2020-01-21): Resolved an issue that allowed Virulent Plague to spread to Explosives found in Mythic Keystone dungeons.
  
• Patch 9.0.1 (2020-10-13): Now learned at level 17 (was 55). Duration of Virulent Plague increased to 27 seconds (was 21 seconds).
  
• Hotfix (2018-08-10):
  • Virulent Plague deals 10% less damage when engaged in combat with enemy players.
  • Virulent Explosion deals 10% less damage when engaged in combat with enemy players.
    
• Hotfix (2017-02-21):
  • Virulent Plague damage-over-time damage increased 67%.
  • Damage of Virulent Plague has been reduced against players to offset the baseline increase above, leaving it unchanged in PvP.
    
• Patch 7.0.3 (2016-07-19): Redesigned as a level 55 Unholy ability (was a level 81 baseline ability). Now deals Shadow damage, and causes the target and nearby enemies to be infected with Virulent Plague.

  Old: Instantly applies Blood Plague and Frost Fever to the target enemy.
