Pained was Jaina Proudmoore's night elf bodyguard. She rarely left her lady's side, except when Jaina sent her on a mission. She was also in charge of Theramore Isle's spy network and proved to be a formidable opponent being able to go toe to toe with the likes of Baine Bloodhoof and Malkorok, Garrosh's personal bodyguard.[1]

She accompanied Jaina and Archmage Tervosh to capture Private Hendel in Dustwallow.[2]

Pained was a bodyguard assigned to Jaina by Tyrande Whisperwind at the Battle of Mount Hyjal. She remained with Jaina afterwards, saying that she had never officially been relieved of her duty.[1]

In a conversation between Tyrande and Tervosh, she was mentioned to have had a traumatic encounter with dark magi which left a physical scar as well as mental scars. Despite the traumatic event, she stoically continued to do Lady Proudmoore's will and stubbornly refused to accept any help.[3] Tyrande appeared to understand Pained's motivation or need to not return to her people, and thus never recalled her.

When Jaina received an apprentice in the form of Kinndy Sparkshine, the gnome and night elf became friends soon afterward. Some time after the fall of Deathwing, the blue dragon Kalecgos would come to Theramore in order to secure aid in looking for the Focusing Iris which was stolen from his flight. Upon receiving the news, Pained was quick to depart to the field in order to personally discover any information, noting that while her spies were diligent they might not understand what exactly they needed to be looking for. While searching, Pained learned that the Horde was gathering from Orgrimmar, Mulgore, and Ratchet to launch an attack upon Northwatch Hold; she relayed the news to Jaina through Captain Wymor. Pained continued to advise Lady Jaina along with Archmage Tervosh.

When the armies of the Alliance and members of the Kirin Tor arrived to defend Theramore against the Horde, Pained helped them get used to the layout of the City and introduced them to Captain Garran Vimes and Captain Evencane. When word reached them that the Horde was on the move, Pained lead an ambush against the Horde forces attacking the West Gate of Theramore. Pained personally fought Malkorok, but was signaled to retreat before the fight could be ended. She returned to Jaina and noticed her about the fight and the fact that a Blackrock orc was among the Horde and was more than eager to continue defending Theramore.

Pained accompanied Jaina to the north gate and discovered the Sunreaver Thalen Songweaver weakening the gate instead of empowering it; Pained knocked him out and sent him to Captain Evancane for interrogation. The north gate fell soon afterward and Pained quickly joined in the battle that followed, surviving melee combat with both Baine Bloodhoof and Vol'jin.

Though the battle was won, Pained perished when Garrosh Hellscream detonated an enormous mana bomb empowered by the Focusing Iris, destroying the city. Her corpse was saturated with so much magic immediately afterward that when Jaina touched stray strands of her hair, they shattered like glass.[1]

In the RPG[]

Icon-RPG This section contains information from the Warcraft RPG which is considered non-canon.

The scary night elf girl with a big hammer is briefly mentioned as being one of the Jaina's assistants.[4] In World of Warcraft, however, she didn't use a hammer but a sword.

She was very likely a member of the Sentinels.
