A dwarven paladin fights for the Alliance

The paladins are the virtuous defenders of the weak and tireless enemies of the undead. Mixing elements of the warrior and the priests of the Holy Light, the paladin is a tough melee fighter, with great health, excellent protection, and very strong buffs. The tradition of the Holy Light is unique to the Alliance.

The paladin order--otherwise known as the Knights of the Silver Hand, or just the Silver Hand--was founded prior to the Second War by the Archbishop Alonsus Faol. The holy paladins led the battle against the orcish Horde and helped to save the lands of Lordaeron from ruin. During this time, the paladin hero, Uther Lightbringer was the supreme commander of the order, and was venerated as one of the Alliance's greatest heros. After the war the paladins continued to keep the peace by quelling civil uprisings and the like. During the Third War the paladin order suffered grievious losses with the betrayal of their most promising trainee, Prince Arthas. Leading the Scourge armies, Arthas wiped out civilization in much of Lordaeron. In the process of destroying everything he once held dear, Arthas murdered many of the paladins and killed Uther himself in mortal combat.

Meanwhile, in the kingdom of Stormwind, the paladin order, newly founded in the southern kingdom, was flourishing. When news of Lordaeron's fate reached them, they took in many of the bedraggled remnants of the paladins. Many of the paladins that did not fly south with the rest joined a zealous group of followers of the Light known as the Scarlet Crusade.

In the southlands, the paladin order now thrives under their new leadership at the Cathedral of Light in Stormwind City. Over time, the followers of the Spell holy surgeoflight [Holy Light] spread their philosophy to the dwarves of Ironforge who soon adopted the tenants of the order as well.
