Rake is a level 10 Feral druid ability. It is a basic direct damage melee attack with a damage over time component. It is an effective damage technique against high armor enemies (Mail and Plate wearers), as well as preventing rogues from using [Vanish].

Rank 2 is learned at level 39, causing Rake when used from [Prowl] to also stun the target for 4 sec, and deal 60% increased damage.

Patch changes

  • Legion Hotfix (2016-11-14): (Feral) Rake now deals 20% less damage to players.
  • Legion Patch 7.1.0 (2016-10-25): Now available at level 12 (was 6).
  • Legion Patch 7.0.3 (2016-07-19): Now deals 100% more damage when used from [Prowl]. Damage increased by 76.5%.
  • Warlords of Draenor Patch 6.2.2 (2015-09-01): Now deals 20% more damage. In PvP combat, now deals 20% less damage.
  • Warlords of Draenor Patch 6.2.0 (2015-06-23): Now deals 10% more damage.
  • Warlords of Draenor Hotfix (2014-10-21): Rake should no longer incorrectly stun the target if the attack misses while the Druid is stealthed.
  • Warlords of Draenor Hotfix (2014-10-17):
    • Damage increased by 12%.
    • Rake's Bleed effect should now always be applied to the target if the initial hit lands.
  • Warlords of Draenor Patch 6.0.2 (2014-10-14): Now also stuns the target for 4 seconds if used while stealthed, and is only available to Feral druids.
  • Mists of Pandaria Patch 5.0.4 (2012-08-28): Bleed duration increased from 9 to 15 sec.
  • Cataclysm Patch 4.2.0 (2011-06-28): Initial damage on hit now deals the same damage as each periodic tick (and is treated the same for all combat calculations). Periodic damage now gains 14.7% of attack power per tick, up from 12.6%, and base damage per tick has been lowered from 557 to 56. There is a known issue with Rake's tooltip being incorrect from this change will be corrected in a future patch.
  • Cataclysm Patch 4.0.6 (2011-02-08): Now scales from 2.07% of Attack Power, down from 2.3%. Additional bleed damage now scales from 37.8% of Attack Power, down from 42%, base damage reduced by 10%, from 1859 to 1672.
  • Wrath of the Lich King Patch 3.2.0 (2009-08-04): Ranks 6 and 7 base points on initial and periodic damage reduced by about 7%. Scaling from attack power unchanged.
  • Wrath of the Lich King Patch 3.0.2 (2008-10-14): The damage for this ability has been increased.
    The initial damage was increased, the bleed effect multiplier increased from 0.06 to 0.18, and gained additional damage.
  • Bc icon.gif Patch 2.1.0 (2007-05-22): The tooltip has been adjusted to indicate the initial damage done is bleed damage. In addition, Rake can now always be re-applied, even when Mangle is active.
  • Bc icon.gif Patch 2.0.1 (2006-12-05): The initial damage is no longer mitigated by armor.
  • WoW Icon update.png Patch 1.7.0 (2005-09-13): Damage has been increased.
  • Test-inline.png Patch 0.7 (2004-06-15): Damage increased. Energy cost reduced if Rake fails.
