Ranged weapons include bows, guns, crossbows, any thrown weapons, and wands.
These weapons, except for wands, are equippable by hunters, rogues, and warriors in their ranged weapon slot. Wands can be used by mages, priests, and warlocks in their ranged weapon slot.
Patch changes[]
Patch 5.0.4 (2012-08-28): Ranged weapon slot and thrown weapons removed. Weapons changed to main hand items. 
Patch 4.0.1 (2010-10-12): Ammo has been removed from the game. Previously, guns, bows and crosswbows required ammunition.
