Second, Revenge has a flat amount of damage modified by AP, while Overpower is straight weapon damage. Third, the [[Improved Revenge]] talent gives you a chance to stun the target, whereas [[Improved Overpower]] increases critical hit percentage.

Revenge is a high damage warrior counterattack skill (thanks to the new patch improving Revenge's damage). It is only usable immediately after blocking, dodging, or parrying an attack and in Ability warrior defensivestance [Defensive Stance], making it essentially a tanking attack.

Revenge costs 5 Rage, giving it the same cost as Ability meleedamage [Overpower]. Unlike Overpower, Revenge may be blocked, dodged, or parried. This skill is not based on weapon damage. It should be noted, however, that it shares the same Cooldown as Overpower.

Since patch 3.0.2, Revenge damage has been severely increased, and now scales with attack power. This makes Revenge highly superior to Overpower for those not wielding a two-handed weapon, i.e. tanking warriors.

Rank table

1 14 99 to 121 15s
2 24 145 to 177 80s

8 70 963 to 1175 6g 50s
9 80 1636 to 1998 26g

Tips and Tactics

  • This ability is often the best way to hold a mob's attention at the beginning stages of a fight due to its very high threat-per-Rage ratio (which becomes even better with 3/3 Ability warrior focusedrage [Focused Rage]). Ability Warrior Sunder [Sunder Armor] or Inv sword 11 [Devastate] are available on command and can be spammed (given sufficient Rage, of course), and INV Shield 05 [Shield Slam] still generates more threat per application, but smart tanking warriors will still use Revenge at almost every opportunity.
  • Ability defend [Shield Block] is a popular way to enable Revenge by getting a guaranteed block within a few seconds (generally much less).
  • Revenge may seem similar the Ability warrior offensivestance [Battle Stance] ability Ability meleedamage [Overpower] in that it is a situationally reactive skill, but there are important differences to be aware of. First, revenge is available after your warrior blocks, dodges, or parries; Overpower only after your target dodges. Second, Revenge has a flat amount of damage modified by AP, while Overpower is straight weapon damage. Third, the Ability warrior revenge [Improved Revenge] talent gives you a chance to hit another nearby target, whereas Ability meleedamage [Improved Overpower] increases critical hit percentage.
  • Note that you don't necessarily need to Revenge the mob that you blocked/parried/dodged: once Revenge is lit up you can use it on any target until the timer expires. This can be a very Rage-efficient way of building threat on multiple mobs over a short period of time: if multiple mobs are targetting you, there is a high likelihood that Revenge will become available regularly, particularly if your Defense skill, dodge rating, parry rating, and/or shield block percentage are high.
  • Prior to patch 3.3.3, Ability warrior revenge [Improved Revenge] made this ability an important spell interrupt alternative. 3.3.3 makes it instead an addition to AoE tanking, resembling more a situational version of Ability warrior cleave [Cleave]. (Cleave itself being an "auto-attack replacement" power.)
  • Note that with 2/2 Ability warrior unrelentingassault [Unrelenting Assault], Revenge will be on a one second cooldown - while a parry, dodge or block enables the ability for a few seconds - effectively allowing multiple Revenges to be used after a single dodge, parry or block. It is unknown whether this is a bug or working as intended.

Patch changes

  • Wrath-Logo-Small Patch 3.3.3 (2010-03-23): Damage done by this ability (base and scaling) increased by 50%.
  • Wrath-Logo-Small Patch 3.0.2 (2008-10-14): Damage increased.
  • Bc icon Patch 2.4.3 (2008-07-15): Ranks 1-5 of this ability now have damage ranges instead of fixed damage values (like ranks 6-8.)
