- This NPC, along with Ian Duran, is a reference to the band Duran Duran. Two of Duran Duran's greatest hits were "Rio" (which includes the line "Her name is Rio, and she dances on the sand") and "Hungry Like the Wolf". In reference to the latter song, Rio Duran quotes lyrics from "Hungry Like the Wolf" while on the quest [30-35] Free Your Mind, the Rest Follows.
- Although Rio appears to be a druid from Gilneas, she is never seen in worgen form.
