Prior to the Second War, several Ironforge dwarf clans lived in the eastern parts of the Wetlands. One in particular, led by Rom, once numbered in the hundreds but by the time of the Battle of Grim Batol only had 47 members left. The clan was allied to three other clans, two of which had more members left than Rom's clan.[1]
History[]
Rom's clan was among those dwarves that couldn't and didn't evacuate Khaz Modan when the Horde conquered it. They were forced to live underground in old tunnels and mine systems,[2] eking out a meager living while hunted down by the forces of Dragonmaw clan. The orcs patrolled the surface of the rocky landscape with grunts and dragon riders while the undergrounds were secured by Amani axethrowers and dragons that were not fit for aerial duty.
At the outset of the Taking of Grim Batol, the clan helped elven ranger Vereesa Windrunner and gryphon rider Falstad Dragonreaver infiltrate the mountain of the old Wildhammer capital city. On Krasus' order, they then ambushed Dragonmaw clan's convoy toward the north, sacrificing many of their own to save the eggs of the Red dragonflight.

Notes and trivia[]
- World of Warcraft shows no traces of Ironforge dwarf settlements in the area described by the novels. These settlements might have been destroyed during the Second War. Day of the Dragon implied that Grim Batol was an old hill dwarf city instead of a mountain dwarf one.
