Saldean's Farm is unique in Westfall in that it is the only farm that was never completely overrun by the Defias Brotherhood. Though Defias harvest golems roam the fields, Farmer Saldean and his wife Salma Saldean have stubbornly refused to leave. The farmhouse has been serving as a halfway house for years, and the couple does its best to keep their guests alive.[1]
History[]
Cataclysm[]
For years, the Saldeans have been kind-hearted people, and following the war against the Lich King, they began to care for the numerous homeless who arrived in the region. This includes feeding numerous orphans with the famous [Westfall Stew].[2] At some point, a little girl walked right into our farmhouse and collapsed on the floor. Nobody had a clue as to her identity, and the girl had no recollection of who she was or where she came from. The Saldeans adopted her and named her Hope due to the hard times that had fallen on them, but she turned out to be Vanessa VanCleef.
When the adventurers came to help the Saldean couple,[3] Salma asked them to collect ingredients for her stew, then to distribute this meal to the homeless in front of the walls of Sentinel Hill.[4] Farmer Saldean also asked the adventurers to help them with the murderous Harvest Watchers in their fields, in order to prevent other innocent people from being killed by the mad machines.[1]
Legion[]
During the Burning Legion's invasion, the area fell under the Legion's control. Its residents were enslaved by nathrezim and were later killed by the defenders, but Farmer Saldean and her wife managed to survive and hide within their home.
Dragonflight[]
Some time after the discovery of the Dragon Isles, Vanessa VanCleef returned to the Saldean's Farm with her friend Cecilia Clessington. After so many years, the Saldean couple was happy to see their adopted daughter again at home, regretting the actions she committed as Vanessa VanCleef, but that she would forever remain Hope for them. Soon, many farmers, war refugees, and former Defias came to the farm and discussed how to revitalize the region. Together, they formed the Breadbasket Guild, an organization trying to do right by each other, notably by working the farms again and to get proper homes built for folks.[5][6] With the support of Cecilia in the House of Nobles, the guild was formalized in order to bargain with Stormwind for support,[7] and they now use the Saldean's Farm as their headquarters, which they are starting to do the renovations.
