Summary[]
Ner'zhul is a legacy server and one of the originally deployed servers at the premiere of World of Warcraft. Because of this, the server had a history of hardware problems resulting in occasional server restarts several times a weekly cycle. Once Blizzard updated the server hardware around the release of The Burning Crusade Expansion, most problems were resolved.
The server now accommodates thousands of players with a concentration on Pacific-zoned regions. The server is well populated and established, and is home to several high end guilds advancing through cutting edge content. Ner'zhul is a PvP server and has featured elite arena teams in its history. Horde and Alliance tend to dominant PvP more or less on equal terms.
The most widely known individuals are WoW TCG Lead Developer Elendril and longtime infamous PvP Rogue Booger as well as Igniter Lost Anarchy's infamous paladin.
Wet Dreams, Vicious Cycle, WHY DID WE BRING A DRUID, and Not Even Good were all Top 10 5v5 Arena Teams in Arena Season 1.
Notable Points[]
- Ner'zhul was one of servers made famous by a collaboration of a few crazed individuals who managed to pull Lord Kazzak from his base in Blasted Lands to wreck havoc on the Alliance city Stormwind.
- While officially designated a PST server, a number of Oceanic guilds reside on Ner'zhul and actively conduct raids at off-peak times relative to North American players.
- A highly regarded Gnome rogue named Walle was challenged to a series of duels by the Tauren shaman Gweldoc of Shadow Gypsies. Gweldoc had created a thread on the US Ner'zhul forums brazenly declaring his superiority to Walle in that he would be "riding you up and down Azeroth without the use of interface mods, health potions, or tubers." Gweldoc would then chronicle his feats in his self-proclaimed upcoming video Wheres Walle. Shortly after word of this surfaced, Walle produced a video in response... Smile for the Camera Walle.
- All three pre-TBC Alliance cities of Azeroth (Darnassus, Ironforge, Stormwind) have had their leaders assassinated at least once by Horde players. The Alliance have also returned the favor by killing at least once the leader of Thunder Bluff and Orgrimmar.
- The server is also the home of the original Kralnor, the patron saint of all warlocks.
- The server also featured a well-known forum troll named Matsim in the late The Burning Crusade expansion. Matsim was a Night Elf hunter who would reply to many random hunters on the realm forum and criticize (correctly) their talent, gear, enchant, and gem choices. Despite the fact that he was a troll, he did this in a very friendly (though arguably annoying and repetitive) manner. He was known for ending all of his posts with "-Matsim," despite the fact that everyone could see his name on the left side of his post.
